wow its surprising that most people are getting between 25-30. I am in the 30-35 range and thought I should be getting better MPGs

You have to remember these cars weren't rated to get more than 32 mpg. Also that is with very conservative driving manners.

Update after rebuild (for the short bit I have had to drive it before sending it back off):

I have gotten a solid average of about 24mpg per tank. Thats with a mix of highway and city. Pure highway without cruise control I average 28-30. I have a feeling though with cruise Ill be closer to 30-32 on long uninterrupted all highway trips.

I am still happy at getting, if I push it 340 miles out of a tank.

Recently took a 2hr trip at 75-80mph with my wife, daughter, and car full of soccer gear. The average mpg was 32, but the A/C was on also.

I've been getting 29-31mpg average in 50/50 city/highway (daily commute), my lowest tank was 27.2 in 100* weather with AC blasting and I work schedule was dictating leaving and coming home at peak traffic hours which sucked. Best tankful was 34.8mpg on a weekend road trip in march so no ac, and TRYING to get good mpg.

It's still way better than the 23.2mpg best I coaxed out of her 09 GMC (impressive for that beast) but I'm truthfully disappointed that my focus is the first car I've ever owned that I couldn't beat the "official" high mpg rating by at least a couple mpg.

Sorta off/on topic any zx3 duratec manual owners care to share which speed they seem to get the best mpg at? I have no tach (thanks highly paid engineers who decided to make it an option) so I'm trying to determine the best speed to highway crusie at for max mpg. It seems to like 65-70mph but idk. I had an 06' ranger with a 2.3 duratec that would get 30mpg hwy all day long unless you broke the magic 71mph (don't remember rpms) barrier, then it would drop to 26..... I figured maybe the focus duratec may have a sweet spot too?

Just got my 2012, but when I was driving my wife's 2006 ST, I was filling it with ten gallons every time and my trip meter ranged from 300-340 miles.

So, a low of 30 and a high of 34MPG overall in an '06 ST (manual.) >70% highway miles, a good bit of it stop-and-go, with a fair deal of hill driving. Way better than the EPA suggest mileage for this six year-old car with 166K miles on it.
