i lied on last post i realized its not 103,xxx its a shade under 109,800 once i got home from work today
Every 5,000 miles Oil and Filter Every 15,000 miles Seafoam Spark Plugs(copper core) Every 20,000 Fuel Filter on a 13.2 tank where the light comes on basically after 11 gallons have been used i still get 262 miles (23.xxMPG) not that great but appropriate to the way i drive it every dayand the bolt ons i have everday the car goes through stop and go,highway, on and off ignition between the 8-15 stores i do a day for my job that are all 5-10 miles apart in Daytona

Is that all around mileage? If so sounds about right. After she is broke in you will pick up a mile or two.

05 ST. Tires inflated to 39 psi. Drive very soft, shifting at or before 2000 rpms. Usually get 30 or 31 with about 75 percent city.
Overall 28/29 city 35/36 highway. I've been recording mileage at the gas pump, the old fashioned way for the past year and a half. My next cars going to be a hybrid. |

Why would someone inflate their tires beyond what is suggested for simply a small mpg gain? I can think on a number of negative effects that would cancel out any mpg gain.
-- Uneven tire wear -- Higher tire temps leading to more wear and increased possibility of blow outs -- Increased possibility of accident due to less traction because the tire doesn't have an even patch of tread on the ground (more on the middle, less on the sides) -- Increased wear on suspension and higher possibility of bending a wheel due to less energy being adsorbed by the tires (harsher ride) There might be others but these are all I can think of for the moment

You have decreased tire wear with the higher tire pressure. Lower tire pressure increases tire wear.
I've noticed a small change in braking time. I inflate them to 39, because I like the firmer ride, better mpg (1 mpg better), & I'm trying to get my tires to at least 40k & possibly beyond. Also I like the decreased resistance. With tires at 34 it feels like when I biked around with a low tire & required much more effort. With increased tire pressure you sail along with much less overall effort. 34 is the minimum, so 39 is hardly excessive. I know many who inflate to 10 over, which would be 44 for the focus. Tire pressure effects
Quote:
The higher pressure effect on traction varies by the tire model. Higher pressure results in less chance of bending a wheel, since a severe bump (such as a speed bump) deflects the tire less. This is important, especially for low profile tires. My observation is that manufacturer pressure label for most cars is designed for a cushy ride, and higher pressure results in better handling and economy.
