34+mpg, but it's highway driving

My 17-mile one-way commute to work is 90 percent interstate driving at 60-70 mph. I don't do much other driving. If I did more errands, I suspect my mileage would drop to about 27 mpg.

I average 32 MPG with an automatic transmission on my '08 Focus. Currently I'm running with the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20 oil due to the colder temps in my part of the country. I also use Amsoil PI additive every 4-5K miles. Most of my driving is country roads (55 MPH) or freeway (65-70 MPH),.

I'll also slow down for stop lights and stop signs instead of racing up to the light and slamming on the brakes. I don't do jack-rabbit starts.

I've also switched from the Pirelli tires to Michelin X-Ice tires for the winter roads. Another important factor is getting good fuel on a consistent basis.

My 2003 ZX-3 w/Automatic has been averaging only 15 miles per gallon. It has only 49,000 miles. This is a combination of city/highway driving. The dealer cannot figure out why, only that it may need spark plug wires. Any ideas as to why - anyone else experiencing the mileage.

Also, the interior/dash/radio lights flicker when the brake is applied. The dealer said Ford Technicians advised him that this is normal for a Focus. Anyone else have this happen with their Focus.

Thanks.

I get about 24 to 25 around town. And about 29 to 31 on the freeway... I put a K & N intake and a turbonator and it is doing better already.,
