LOL. How do you take them out of their car if you can't catch them with a slow Focus?

Keep in mind that the reported MPG figures straight from Ford and other places, give the manual transmission Focus a +2MPG advantage over the automatic version.......but only on the highway. Around town the MPG figures are the same.
Meaning....don't blame poor MPGs on your transmission, shift the blame somewhere else, like your foot. If you're driving honestly conservative, and still have poor MPGs, you might blame Ford and it's poor PCM programming. A 2.0L engine in a relatively modern/small car, not tuned for racing......should average at least 28MPG in mixed driving. IMHO......Ford should develop a new PCM program for all Focus models, optimizing MPG. It should be considered a recall, and done for free for anybody interested. The whole program would easily pay for itself by the good publicity/good will received by Ford. Since I bought my Focus, I have bad-mouthed the thing because of my poor MPG. (25.5) |

Well, since they are behind me, I won't have to go too far to 'catch up' to them, now will I? And yeah, I've nick named my car the 'Slowcus'. Oh well, If I wanted to go fast I would have bought a fast car! |

Approaching 6k miles, I'm now seeing 42.3 MPG on the guage. Manual fill 'n divide (I always use the same station and pump) gives me extremely close to the same right at 42 MPG - I have every receipt and miles / so it should be pretty accurate. I used to have to fill up the tank on the Explorer every other day. Now I'm getting over 500 miles on a tank in the Focus. So I only fill up twice a week. A/C does hurt the MPG a bit but not much. If I keep it under 66 MPH the A/C doesn't seem to matter. Everyone else around me is driving a bit faster, but I almost *always* catch up to them at the stoplights (which I try to coast and not stop).
Is anyone else here getting over 42 MPG? This is bone stock. I'm trying to see how high it will go before I start changing things (air filter to K&N, plugs, 100% synthetic, etc.). ----------------------------------------- Update: I'm now getting 43.8 MPG and changed over to Mobile 1 oil and filter today (8/29/08) - so we'll see if I can hit 45 MPG... that's my goal. The secret to high mileage claims......
Flunked basic math. Only drives down-hill with a tail-wind. Faulty gauge on gas pump at filling station. Wishful thinking......

I've been getting around 35 - 36 driving 55 mostly all highway. Last fill I calculated 38.5, but it only took 10.6 gallons when the gas light had been on for about 7 miles, so I think it just didn't fill all the way. It should have been around 11.5 gallons. I got 409 miles out of that tank. How anyone could get 500 miles consistently is beyond me.
