what tips did you follow. i read through their suggestions and some of them are for hybrid. if you can elaborate what exactly you followed it would help some of us and reduce the fuel consumption by many

Road Trip

I just went on a road trip and got 34 MPG on the highway and 30 MPG with about a 70/30 mix of highway and city. I have been averaging about 26 with my normal city driving.

I drive my Focus primarily as a commuter car (26 miles/day M-F) w/ occasional highway miles, and 200 hwy miles one weekend per month. Including both cold and warm wx driving in Michigan, average fuel consumption has been 25.3 mpg w/ a standard dev of 2.1. During the summer I average 26.5-29.0 mpg (depending on level of hwy driving) and 20.5-23.0 during cold winter driving. MPG really drops when the ambient air temp is below 15' F.

Did our 400 mile run this past Friday. 1st leg was at 65 w/cruise and no A/C, returned us 39.6 mpg. Second leg was stop and go interstate traffic around Indy and 65 w/cruise when we could, A/C the whole way, returned us 37.1 mpg. Temp was in the 80's for the first portion and mid 90's for the second.

That averages out to 38.35 mpg if you combine the A/C and non A/C portions. Personally I think the 30 min of backed up traffic and stop and go did more to influence the second leg than the A/C did. Anyway you look at it I was grinning from ear to ear at the pumps.
