Speedometer/Odometer Error

I was on a 600 mile round trip yesterday. I had never checked my speedomter and odometer against the Interstate mileage markers. So I ran a twenty mile test and found my odometer is exactly 2% slow. Now this is assuming the Interstate signs are accurately placed.

The end result is that if I factor in the 2% error I gain about 1/2mpg.

I got 32mpg in 100 degree heat, 72mph, a/c on and a 15 to 20mph cross wind, running Shell 87 octane.

Well, 700 miles on my ZX4 ST, and my mileage sucks. Granted, the engine needs to break in, but I've been seeing on the last 2 tanks of gas only about 210 miles per tank. Estimates say that should be closer to 320. I'm not liking this! 35 bucks to get 210 miles sucks royally! Any suggestions? I drive hard, get crappy mileage. I drive like a grandma, get crappy mileage, WTF!

Couldn't tell ya. I just filled up for the first time with my 719mile '07ST and got 23.3mpg, but I have yet to hit 4k rpms. It was mostly city driving, with one trip to San Antonio (~50miles roundtrip). I put in 8.4 gallons, working it out I would have gotten about 339miles on this tank, if it were bone dry.

Lowest I've had is 17mpg with very untuned cams. The best was around 40mpg on the way from DC to Roanoke, when the car was running just slightly leaner than I wanted.

I have 123K miles on mine and I get about 27mpg in an even mix of highway and city. The best I've gotten recently is 31 when I went to the detroit auto show.

31k on the clock

~23 in town
~31 at 75 mph on the highway

HIghest I ever got was 33

Best thing to save gas is to shift early( but not to early), don't stab the throttle, keep your speed down. Atleast for the 70 is a good speed for good mpg.

I should actually try doing the speed limit next time I go home. It is a one tank trip down just going and not comin back.

Those are "suppose" to be what an '06 ST would get in town and highway, but nooooooo. Mine doesn't even come close. Maybe like 1/2 those number in reality.

I have an '06 ZX5 with around 5500 miles on the odometer. I've been keeping track of my mileage on and off since I bought it.

It's stick, so if I don't push it too hard, and keep it in the right gear I get around 30-31 mpg. Even if I push it really hard (3rd gear @ 50 mph through some nice twisty roads for about 25% of my commute), I haven't gotten below 27. Not shifting into too high of a gear helps the mileage too, since you don't have to push it as hard if you need to accelerate.

That 36 mpg at the end is driving from northeast Ohio to Rochester, NY. Rochester is a nice 600 feet below NE Ohio, it's all highway, and I didn't push it hard either (65-75 mph).

Miles Gas (gal.) MPG

271.5 8.747 31.0
287.2 9.731 29.5
278.3 9.738 28.6
275.6 10.097 27.3
330.2 11.365 29.1
266.4 9.090 29.3
258.6 9.173 28.2
293.9 9.669 30.4
229.7 6.379 36.0

Total: 2491.4 83.989 29.7

EDIT: Sorry it's hard to read, the forum seems to delete multiple spaces, and I can't figure out anyway to enter a table.

So far I've gotten 24.4, 21.8, and 27.35, driving it fairly agressive city for the first 2 and 80-85 highway for the last. I'm averaging around 25 mixed at the moment, about what I had expected.

As for best shift points for fuel economy, use steady, mid-throttle, acceleration and follow the shift light, that's why it is there.
