Review: Falken Azenis ST115's

Product Link: Falken Azenis ST115

I paid $91 a piece for 215/45/17's through Discount Tire and they can be ordered for $90 each at www.tires.com.

I'll start off with a list of the pro's and cons then write a bit more below.

Pros:
  • very, very quiet
  • confident feel under regular/lightly spirited driving
  • great in wet conditions
  • no tramming or tracking

Cons:
  • suck for autocrossing
  • suck for autocrossing
  • suck for autocrossing

So I've had the tires on for about 1000 miles now. Around town and on the freeway these tires have been great. They have a very confidant feel and road noise is significantly reduced. Compared to the Continental Contisports these tires are silent. They also don't tram which is nice. For around town they're very "comfortable" tires.

Now today I used them for the first time autocrossing. It. was. awful. Corning is reduced and they do not inspire confidence in high speed turns. In fact, they had me scrambling to retain control of the car. I never thought I'd say it but I wanted my worn out Continentals back.

In summation, if you want tires that will only be used for around the town driving with a little bit of fun thrown in, these are great. Having some spirited fun on surface streets these tires really didn't disappoint. However, if you might want to use these on the track I'd strongly suggest getting a different set of tires.

What sort of pressures were you running?

Thanks for the review!
I'm going to be needing to replace my Contis rather soon,
and until I can afford another set of wheels, I need "double duty" tires as well.

Its more of a street tire. If you wanted something for autocross, get the RT-215

About 34lbs for the first two runs then up to 42 for the last three. Really didn't make much of a difference.

Unfortunately I don't have the cash for a dedicated set. I had gambled on these being "good enough" but looks like I lost.
