I was worried about the direction this thread was going in.

It seems to have evened itself out now.

Don't worry about it, it took me 9 yrs to get everything done to my other focus. Ended up getting another one and I'm ready to rebuild the old one since it's getting up there inn age.

It wasn't directed at you. It's simply a generalized statement.
If you've been internet for as long as I have you see that when people ask about 'cheap parts' they more than often are college kids spending loan money. Hell, I've even seem many say exactly that.

I'm not saying that buying over time is wrong. Just that doing so and expecting immediate results is wrong. If you have the patients to build over time, you should also have to see results after all parts have been purchased. This is where a goal plays in ... and a good many of us tell people to set a goal and work/purchase towards that goal.

BTW, IMHO, cams are about the only worthwhile mod for the car. They are the single most limiting factor in making more power and the most commonly neglected.
Are they worth the money, yes, every penny.

I once had an (mild) edelbrock cam/intake paired combination installed on my 83 mustang, made a great improvement.

Interesting post. So I don't think there was ever an answer to Tom's question about dialing in the cams....

That is an absolute minimum for installing aftermarket cams. Adjustable cam gears can make the final tweaks on a dyno if you want to take it to the next level. IMO if you have to make adjustments with the cam gears far off from the dialed in positions you have the wrong cams for the engine.

The problem with that is the wiggle room that is or can be present in the setting of even stock timing makes adjustable greats great on stock cams, and are even more needed when going with aftermarket.

Thats the I think too. Could be more so w/ zetec's but on v/8's its best to get cams for the intended use.
