SYNC not recognizing playlists - help

Started downloading playlists to the MP3 player (Sony Walkman) I'm using in my 2012 SE with SYNC.

I have verified that the playlists are indeed in the MP3 player's library, but for some reason SYNC doesn't acknowledge that they're actually there. They do not show up under the SYNC menu, and when I try to use the Playlist voice command, I get a message that indicates "not available in current media."

Both the voice and menu commands for the downloaded music (play Album, play artist, play track) work perfectly fine.

Any thoughts?

Hi stevetimm,

Have you tried putting the individual songs on your Walkman to see if SYNC recognizes them? If not, let's start there and then dive into your playlist issue. :)

So, this weekend, I deleted the playlists from my MP3 player (Sony Walkman NWZ 385/B), recreated them on my computer, then downloaded both the playlists and the albums associated with the playlists to the MP3 player.

While I can play both the albums and any track on those albums perfectly fine through either the display menu or with the voice commands, the system still will not recognize that the playlists are in the device.

Any further thoughts on this, Rebecca (or others out there)?

Make sure your playlists are using relative file paths, and not absolute ones.

For example:

.\artist\album\song.mp3 will work.

C:\Music\artist\album\song.mp3 will not

This will be of NO help!

It's run by MicroSoft software so what do you expect.

I have no issues with my Alpine deck when playing directly from my iPod which is safely in the glovebox.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Try what tuxtanium said, and can you give us a little taste of how your file paths currently look?

Thanks for the follow up. These may sound like dumb questions, but

A) How can I check the file path (I'm using Windows 7 and have created the playlists through Windows Media Player) and
B) If the file path is not correct, how do I change it to the proper format for SYNC?

Is this how you're creating the playlists?:

Steps to add a playlist to a USB flash drive from Windows Media Player.

1. Make sure the music is listed on the flash drive/media device.
2. Transfer the music from the flash drive/media device to Windows Media player in the Media Library tab.
3. Click on Playlists, and then Create New Playlist.
4. Go back to the Media Library and Sort the music by the file name to show the file path starting with the Flash Drive Location (E.g…E:\Music\MyMusic\...).
5. Select the songs that you would like to add to the playlist and drag and drop them, or right click them and send them to the correct playlist.
6. Once the playlist is complete, click on File and then Save Playlist As.
7. Click on My Computer, and then select the drive associated with the flash drive/media device.
8. Change the Save As Type to Any Playlist.
9. Name the file and click on Save.

If so, then your file paths should be good. Do you happen to have a USB flash drive that you can put a playlist on to see if it does the same thing? If so, let's test that next.
