Wink 2014 6 Speaker System Sound Upgrade

Hey guys, I am building my sound system in my car within the next month or two. I will update pictures when stuff arrives and when I put it all in. This is going to run me about 3,000 (Edit: 4000)(edit the edit: 2500~). Below is all the links of materials I will be using. Enjoy and feel free to ask questions and give suggestions!

I am running about 1550RMS=124amps

Good information for people wanting to upgrade your system:

My factory alternator is 150amps @ 12.5v
150x12.5= 1875watts of RMS power.

Looks to me like you have a good list going on and one helluva project coming up. If I may I would like to make a suggestion.

You list that you will be using Focal coax front speakers and JL Audio coax rear speakers. I would suggest keeping the brands the same when it comes to fronts and rears. Only because the materials that the speakers are made of are completely different and it might mess with your sound staging. Focal tweeters are aluminum which are generally brighter then say the JL tweeter which is silk. It is going to be very hard to balance out the sound from front to rear because certain instruments will sound different between the two brands.

I would recommend either doing JL C2 coaxes up front as well or even step up to the JL C3 convertible speakers. That way the materials will be the same and the sound staging will be a lot more manageable.

Also why are you doing coax speakers up front? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought all of the new Focus's had components up front. If you want to do coax's instead of components the JL C3 can be mounted either way.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with the project I look forward to seeing the build.

Trouble with keeping the brands is that I don't want to have to change the brackets in my doors and I only went off of the speakers that crutchfield has listed, and the focals said they wouldn't fit. If there is a pair that will fit I would gladly use them.

COaxle vs component. I have never messed with them before. Would I need to screw into the door for the tweeter or would it fit in the current location? I wouldn't mind getting component if they fit easily. I do have stock tweeters there.

If your car has stock tweeter locations then you should be able to use the stock hole. To mount the tweeter either make a bracket to mount from behind or you can use hot glue to hold the tweeter in place.

Is that a custom box in your trunk? Do you have a build thread?

Yes and Yes. I have the whole system build in these forums somewhere.

Freemind is right... there needs to be sound proofing in your budget somewhere. You can make a inexpensive speaker sound so much better with it.

Well I can soundproof my doors, but that's about it I would think. Any threads on someone soundproofing the hatch?
