2003 Zetec on 2002 focus zx3

I currently own a 2002 focus zx3, The engine in the car has seen better days and it needs to go. A friend of mine is selling me a 2003 zetec engine with 60k miles for $200. Is there any mayor difference between both engines that I should know of before I attempt the swap. I would like to do the swap over the weekend and I canít afford to run into any surprises since I need the car running on Monday. I am afraid the wire harness might have different connectors for some sensors. Any help would be appreciated.

nope. both are Zetec motors so are the same.

IIRC there was some variant on the shifter between years but think that was different years than your using and would not be touched with just a motor swap.

The motor it self only has 3 sensors...

Knock, Cam position, and oil pressure.

all the other connectors are on other parts like the Intake Manifold, TB, accessory parts, transmission, injectors/fuel rail, coil pack. to my knowledge those three connections did not change from any year of the Zetec motor.

You also have the crank trigger sensor , the aluminum holder that holds the crank sensor from ATX to MTX IS NOT THE SAME , make sure to change this part from your engine to make sure it is the same crank sensor holder , if it is wrong the engine will not start

You also have TPS sensor , water temp sensor , fuel rail sensor ,

Tom

Forgot about the water temp... that's in the head. the fuel rail and TPS are not on the motor though right? He might be transferring that over from what he is replacing it on.

He did not note if the transmission was different, are they both Automatics or both Manuals? Either way watch for the little aluminum plate that Tom talked to.

Yep, check them over for any differences & swap in your old sensors to the replacement engine as needed.

Doesn't hurt as you KNOW those are working right already, and the replacements are an unknown. (the ones on the replacement engine)
