"Entertainment Center" Swap- Possible?

So, I'm picking up my 2012 SE on Thursday, and I noticed that the entertainment center (for lack of a better word) was a bit lacking in features. The car has the standard 2-line LCD, and 6-button keypad.

Would swapping the entire unit with something like this be possible? Would I gain bluetooth/satellite radio functionality?

I've done searches on the forum, but it seems like people have only tried swapping out the 2-line LCD for the 3.5 inch screen.

Personally I would find your set up a plus as I really dislike the whole "iPad" in the dash look. You might try Crutchfield to see what they have.

I can definitely see what you mean. But it's the increased functionality of the satellite radio and bluetooth connectivity that has me interested, rather than the large screen.

Crutchfield sells a kit. It's pretty expensive though because you need a whole new plate, plus if you want to keep the SYNC and steering wheel controls, you need other adapters. If I keep my 2013, it's something I plan to do down the road.

Now, I'm not wanting to do a full replacement with something aftermarket. I linked an ebay auction with one of the more expensive stereo options from the 2012 Ford Focus. I was just curious if it would be a direct replacement, or if there was any extra wiring I'd have to do.

Anything is possible.

To get bluetooth I think you will need an additional bluetooth module that's not listed but can be found online. But the wiring to connect it may not be present. You'll also need to rig up a USB port, which is probably not set up in the wiring harness. Also you will need to set up a microphone.

Easiest would be to get Sirius and the fancy color LCD, but don't expect most of the other features to work because the wiring harness doesen't have the connectors

So, swap/install parts (ACM and display and keypad), flash with FOCCCUS and an elm327 and you should be good to go, it will get you Sirius at least.

However, the system with all the bells and whistles (SYNC, bluetooth, sirius) is still incredibly shitty.

Half-working features (unreliable voice recognition, no unicode support via USB, reliance on metadata), idiotic functions (won't play an album in order if playing off USB), piss-poor sound due to heavy-handed processing, etc.

Overall, the while setup is a 6/10 effort and that's being generous.

Here's what I suggest:
1- Keep existing system but swap LCD to the LARGE MONOCHROME model. Easier to use, but no new features, but from what Ive seen on here it's a direct drop-in. Use your phone through Aux In port.

2- Change ACM/FCDIM/Button Panel, install Sirius antenna and reprogram with FOCCCUS. This will get you a nicer display and will give you Sirius, but no bluetooth most likely)

3- Install a double-din headunit with touchscreen and get the correct Metra bezel to fit the car. Read up cuz most aftermarket headunits work like crap, so try to find reviews and comments.

There are some threads here were people have swapped out the dash panel but I'm not sure if they got all the features to work or not

Just what I was looking for. So doing the swap would pretty much be pointless for the money? Looks like I've got some reading to do today on your suggestions.

Thanks!

Edit- actually just saw your posts in that thread. Great info there. I might go ahead and go through with it to get Sirius. Having the bluetooth functionality would have been great, but neither that nor sync are dealbreakers here. I think the better aesthetics + Sirius make it worth it to me.

Did you ever get the information for Sirius stations to show up?

I have what you're looking to swap in on my 2013. It's... okay. The bluetooth phone part works for the most part, but Bluetooth Audio is a nightmare. The USB playback works sometimes, but randomly stops displaying track information. Honestly, for the money, there are MUCH better options out there.

For me doing the swap to get Sirius was worth it because a- I use Sirius all the time and b- the car already had everything else (sync, BT, steering wheel controls, etc) so all wiring was present.

If you're starting from scratch and you want the added features, go with aftermarket HU and dash plate. Doesn't look fully OEM but close to it. Lots of options available.

If you want to upgrade just the display and use your smartphone, I have my old color sync display module from my own swap, should fit right in.

Here's a relevant thread. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=268595

In the end it all depends how much you wanna spend. If you have an aux jack and a data plan, I would upgrade the display just for looks and that's about it.

Personally not a fan of non-OEM headunits, thay always look out of place but this metra kit is pretty OK.
