intakes

Thought about a cold air intake for my ZX5. Would it be bad if I stuck a cheap one on, say from ebay, or would it be better to put a AEM cold air intake on? They both look exactly the same. It's just pipe and a filter. As long as you got a good filter, shouldn't make a differnce, should it?

Moved to Zetec performance section.

The only problem with some cheap intakes (performance wise) is that they might not be the right diameter in the MAF section & that results in the wrong air flow readings - so the engine won't run right.

Measure the MAF section inside diameter & return anything you get unused if that doesn't match.

If you want to go cheap, get a K;n filter and put the money to a used 65mm throttle body.

If you want to get quality, get the Volant intake. Its like $220 on amazon.

You also don't want a cheaply made Intake or filter that could fall apart at any given moment. I don't know about AEM, but K&N has a million mile warranty on their filters and factory warranties on their intake systems which are built by a trusted company. You basically get what you pay for.

Personally id go with an AEM short ram. I ran both AEM cold air and short ram and running a filter so low to the ground always made me nervous when it was wet outside. But i wouldnt go with a cheap knockoff for two reasons.

1) it could break and are cheaply made like said before

2) who doesnt like running name brand performance parts known for their quality (plus the stickers hahahah)
