Opinions on how much to spend on ICE

So, I know there are multiple opinions and routes to take with ICE, but I am trying to decide how to budget this system. I want a nice system for the car. Let's face it, it is a small economy sedan. A nice system for this car is not the same as a nice system for an MB S600 or a BMW 7 series. Pretty much going for "didn't expect this car to have such a nice system."

My wants:
Touch screen head unit, preferably navigation and DVD with phone ability
Component speakers
Decent sized subwoofer
Amp to power everything

What would be a decent budget to satisfy this? I'd probably have a shop do the work. I can't stand wiring in speakers as it is, let alone doing all of this work. I don't know what other costs there are, like speaker wire and stuff like that. Is $1,500 reasonable?

$1500-2500 is a decent budget if you are having someone else doing the work. Make sure that they seal off the access holes in order to give you better midbass response.

They will probably charge more because the dealer installed a Parrot phone system, but it didn't work, so I removed most of it. The module is still wired in behind the head unit and there are a few other wires still there. I also have 3 way speakers installed, but I wired them in instead of getting adapters.

I have a Massive rear strut brace, too. I'm hoping there is a way they could fit in a sub box without interfering with it.

We had a member that made sub enclosures just for that. Maybe he is still lurking and will get a hold of you.

You might consider just doing a custom box with fiberglass. It's a bit of a project, but it's not super hard.

A nice system should not depend on "the car" but on the car that you enjoy driving. Take my car for instance, I drive a Mrk1.5 focus. Yes it a little econo box but I love my car and most importantly I love my sound. I could have spent a lot of money on a turbo or a motor swap or anything else for the car but my sound is the priority. My sound system is worth well over what the car is worth and I love every minute of it.

No matter what your budget is, as long as your happy with it when it is done then you have spent just the right amount. Also the good thing about sound systems is that you can always continue growing it.

Good luck man
