How often do you change Cabin Air Filter?

How often does everybody replace their Cabin Air Filter? I have had mine in for a year and looked at it yesterday and it looks gray and dirty.

I am also getting a bad smell after turning off the AC. Any possibility this is the filter, or is it the evaporator?

Every 15k miles. Funny, since the car does not come with one, but the manual has the replacement interval. Guess they use the same version of the manual everywhere - even where the car does have the filter installed stock.

The filter could be the cause of your smell - guess you could replace it and find out - that's the first thing I'd try. Especially if you had yours over the winter.

HMMMMMMMMMMM...

Only 8K on car, and about 6K on filter. I took it out and inspected, cleaned, and SNIFFED it. It smelt fine - it is a charcoal filter after all.

I may go ahead and replace, but I doubt this is the problem...

prolly just some mildew on the evaporator or in the tubing.

I agree.

Can anyone tell me where the evaporator is on the SVT? I would assume they have buried it inside the dashboard on passengers side. I would hope though that it is nice and easy access under the hood or fender.

I did notice the other day while looking around for my ECU sticker (never found it) that the frame for the dashboard was showing a remarkable amount of rusting. Open up your glove box and look at the metal frame. Do I have a leak that is causing this and the evaporator problem, or is this "rust" normal too?

Too much fun.

^^ Nope, I got it too :( I found it when I had the glove box dropped to find the sticker.

Where is the cabin filter located? do you just order them through ford? (part number anyone?)

Exactly the same problem...
Weird smells come into my cabin , ranging from dry moldy smell when turning off the AC and exaust fumes...
Changed air filter twice in 7months and gone through 5.000miles so I dont need a new one..

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

hmm... 54k miles, never replaced (or put in) to my knowledge. might be time for that. i get the AC funk as well, wondered if it might be due to infrequent use? i try to go sans AC as much as possible, even more so with the smell that comes after turning it off.

If you never installed one its a good bet you don't have one, unless it was installed by a previous owner.

I change my cabin air filters about once per year and never have any foul smells when the normal vent is on. The "AC funk" is typical if you have the filter or not.
