I've heard the only 05 difference is that you lack the little tab that "clicks" the door into place.

Other than that I have no clue, sorry couldn't be more helpful. This is more of a 2005-general question though, so I'm gonna move it over to Exterior...

I thought someone had swapped their 05 door, or maybe just their gas cap inside it.

Hmm, ok so I never moved it I guess... I'll do that now.

Anyway, which How-to did you find for the older models? In my Haynes manual it says
Quote:
-Remove the Fuel Filler Neck
-Remove 2 retaining screws in the plastic housing surrounding the filler neck
-Twist the fuel door and plastic housing from the vehicle and pull out through opening in the rear fender.

alright let see if i can remember????ok just the one screw that holds the assembly is the one closest to the edge then you have to remove the vent from underneath the car just reach up from between the fender and the rear there is a little opening there.then you just have to wiggle and pull and be easy but use force it takes alittle bit but it will come i used a 01 mach1 door i had to grind the tabs on the door alittle and it fit prefect hope this helps and i tried to be as clear as posible but it has been a few months and i have slept sence then lol

Thanks black05st. i didn't know if the part where the 2nd screw is on the older models was attached to the plastic neck, or if i had to break it to remove the neck, i will give it a try tomarrow, thanks again!

Lil pzev- the 05's don't have that second screw, the one that holds the plastic lanyard for the gas cap. it is like a plastic button, insted of a screw, and the screw closest to the edge is not a screw, it is a bolt. that is why i was confused.

now that i think about it the rubber seal around the filler neck and the housing i used a small screw driver and wiggled it and push on the filler neck to try to release some of the presure once i got the filler neck out of the rubber seal it was easy to remove the door

i took a quick look thru the ford workshop man. but couldnt find anythign to remove it but i dont have body shop experence so not sure where to look on fords dealer page on that one

Yes and I recommend that you don't do this mod, it's not worth it.
