Why do we get small exhaust?

I went to an RSX board. This guy posted a video of his car with the Borla exhaust and it got me wandering. Why do we only get 2.25 or 2.5 when the RSX gets a bigger one it's like 4" I think?

Wandering ? or Wondering ? Anywho, we get the 2.25 because it is optimal for the Focus. I can't imagine a 4" exhaust on any 4 cylinder car would be very good. Maybe if you have a turbo charger ?

if he has 4" he either has a turbo w/ a good amount of boost or hes losing alot of needed backpressure

People who have bigger than needed exhausts are just trying to make up for something else. seriously 4" is just very uneccesary.

Yah no crap...I thought the bigger the exaust on a 4 cylinder the worse...2.25 optimal for stock car, and anything bigger needed turbo or bigger engine... well I gues I'm right :) tnx

LOL 4-5 inch exhaust systems are mostly found on industrial trucks, busses, firefighting apparatus, etc, Im sure the 4" comes from the tip on that exhaust system , optimal for an RSX is 2.5" I believe for that piping...

Yeah it must be the tip b/c I would think even a turbo charged car with boost or something like it would only need like a 3-3.5" exhaust.

I can think of only 2 reasons he would have a exhaust that big, 1- he's making like 600 HP, or 2 has a turbo with a 4" outlet, both of which I really doubt, its probably just a 4 inch tip
