My Focus will be paid off by the end of this year. Plan? Buy another Focus!

I've stuck with this automatic ZX3 since 2000, it's been fun but I think I've endured enough (and saved enough) for a great down payment (over $10k) for another car in the next 2 years. This car will be, if they make a new model by then, the Saleen Focus. I just saw this thing in person, and I was wondering whether or not to get that or a WRX STi. I love offroading, but I don't feel like paying so much for a WRX. This will definately be my next car if the RS doesn't come to America (which you can bet your ass it won't).

The only con about the Saleen focus is that it is a slow pig if you don't hook up the juice. I think it runs 0-60 in 8.1 seconds or around there (the svt does it in 7). Then once you hook up the juice your warranty is gone, once again, brand new car set up for juice+juice=no warranty. The STI is sweet but for $30K it should be, I would wait for the new super charged, all wheel drive mazda6 to come out(mazdaspeed6). That thing is bad as hell for the price (mid $20's), 274hp and 280lbs tq. The next two that may come to others minds are the cobalt ss and the SRT-4, do you really want a renamed neon and cavialer (spelling)? I mean they have such a good reputation in the past as being solid, reliable, well built auto's who could pass up a F/I pill of steaming crap (opps was that out loud?)? I think its funny how both of them wanted to shed there old crappy image so they slap a new name on the side of the same pos cars and bingo, every teenager living off of mommy and daddy is going to be wrapped around a tree. Kind of harsh of me but those are my honest opinions. Also the mazda speed 6 comes out in 06 so it should be on the lots this fall.

I need to test drive the 6, I don't know how the handling is on that. Yeah, sure there's the speed I'd love to get, but when it comes right down to it, I'm all about the turns. SRT-4, the one that a kid drives around here (funny you mention that it's kids who live off of mom and dad too, that's what he does) doesn't look so good with turns, or it could just be his driving style.

2 years is a while, so I'm still waiting to see what comes out.

Bah, I say keep the one you have now as a daily driver, and if you do go with a focus, get a used one for fairly cheap, and then mod the hell out of it.

eggo....there is a mazdaspeed3 coming out that will have 250hp.....most likly either spring 06 or fall of 06. should be in the 20 grand range....id say wait for that to come along...b/c when they come out those things are going to be hot. What more can u ask for....great styling, nice interior, and 250 hp. But do not go with the saleen focus...that has no performance whats so ever, the thing is just all body kit, and seriously if u do hook up the nos...are u going to be using it all the time on normal driving. A regular WRX(non sti) would be better then the saleen focus. Wait for the 3 turbo....o go with the awd turbo 6.

I thought you were posting the same thing that I just did but then I noticed that you said the 3, so they are doing the same thing to the 3 a year after the 6? I would take the 3 over the 6 anytime I just wasn't aware they were making the mazdaspeed version of it. So, yes wait for the mazda speed 3. Just think about it, 250hp from a car that (I think) only weighs a couple hundred pounds more than the focus.

Hmm, well I'm not too much into trying to show them in speed. One thing I love showing off my car compared to this SRT-4 that is around here is that I can go 40 MPH on this small 90 turn that would send him near the trees or lose control otherwise.

Like I said, 2 years is a lot, and the Mini Cooper S and WRX is still up in my top 5 cars I'll be thinking of. I'll make it easier by building credit until then.

So if I understand this right, in the next two years you will be getting a new car? I wouldn't tie myself down to the Focus just yet - who knows what will come in the next two years. The Focus is a good "stepping stone" car - it's what you get on the way to something better. I think the only car I've ever had that I liked so much I considered buying another one to replace the worn out one I had, was the 1986 Toyota MR2. I toyed with the idea of finding one with lower miles and a nicer body as mine started to get old and tired. In the end I got an Escort GT instead and then a few months later bought the Focus. Personally, I wouldn't get another Focus to replace the Focus I've got, but that's just me...

I would invest my money in something that will create money, rather than something that isn't - ie a car...Just drive the 2000 until the wheels fall off. Well that may happen if you haven't had the recall done...
