Guage cluster help.

Hey guys, I have a question I was hoping someone could answer. I read that guage clusters are specific to duratec or zetec, but since I have a 2004 duratec do I need a cluster from a 03-04 2.3L or will any 03-07 duratec cluster work?
Thanks for any help.

From what I see with the wiring specs, it shouldn't be a problem using MK1 cluster except the SVT.

The '05-'07 clusters use CAN communication while the '04 uses SCP. Those clusters are not compatible so you cannot use an '05+.

Really? So I could use an 00-04 Zetec cluster on the D23?

What I got from Burros post, 00-04 are the same and 05-07 are the same also. But you can't use 05-07 on 00-04, vise versa.
Now the tech book I have do sent show a difference between duratec and a zetec, the clusters all wire the same.

Duratec & zetec have different connectors from what I've seen posted before, one thread even had a picture. (different colors for the connector as well IIRC)

Can't speak from experience, just know that the "high line" marked '04 cluster with tach. I got worked fine vs. the "low line" marked one without. All the '04's sold here were duratec PZEV.

Well I have a 04 2.3 cluster out of a Saleen on my 05 2.0

So im guessing as long as its a duratec cluster it will work.

I pulled my info from the Ford wiring diagram. It does have CAN communication listed on the SVT but no other model therefore I assumed no other cluster would have it. Apparently even Ford doesn't know what they did.
