Best thing for the armrest it self is take it to a car interior shop and get it re-covered.
SEM paint is the best I've ever used, I painted my radio surround and shift gaiter about 3 years ago, not a chip or scratch yet.

The stuff is magical. Levels out and dries super fast to.

I thought SEM kind of smelled like Plastidip when wet, they must have the same chemical that lets it dry quick and perfect.

Would you guys suggest using the SEM adhesion promoter and clear along with the SEM paint? I want to stop at the store on my way home today and grab some.

I didn't use either personally. Adhesion promoter is for "problem plastics" where paint won't stick, but it doesn't hurt to use it; and I didn't want the clear coat shine. I scuffed with 0000 steel wool, washed the parts with dish washing liquid, and got the lint up with a tack cloth before I painted.

Thanks Sniper.

I want to get as close to the HVAC bezel dark gray/black as possible. So clear coat is out of the question.

dumb question, but I never removed the center trim before. So I need to ask...

Is it safe to drive my vehicle if I remove that entire center piece while I paint it?

Thanks, again sorry for the dumb question.

You can use clear. Just get a flat sheen! It will protect it better from uv and scratches. Also, it is perfectly fine to drive with the consile removed. Just dont spill any liquids in the airbag module.

Thanks for your help.

Don't really drink in the car so that's not a problem! ;) Don't plan on driving it at all with it off, but only if there is an emergency.

one final question:

Any chain automotive stores that sell it? I'm having issues of finding anyone who actually carries it. Only by shipping.
