So a SVT goes 0-60 in 7 sec. to 7.1 and the 1/4 mile has been done sevral times in an svt in 15 flat (sounds too fast but use the search feature, it happens alot). So the svt is .9sec's faster 0-60 and a full second faster than the 2.3 in the 1/4 mile. If we are going to use this logic then with a new RX8 runing 0-60 in 6+ sec's and 1/4 mile in 14.5 that would put the svt right there in its catagory. If you go by the numbers then the svt and the 2.3 are no where close in comparison. Just cause it has 9 lbs of tq more than the svt (don't forget its 20hp shy of the svt's output) does not mean its going to win any races with an svt. People think just cause they can hang with (as in see) the other car when the race is over it means they are comparable cars. I mean hell, I've got good eye sight (with my glasses on *sarcasm*) so just cause I can see a wrx whip my ass does that mean that I'm in the same league as him? No way in hell. I'm sure I'm starting a no win descusion here but I couldn't restrain myself any longer. Also people will bring up the potential of the 2.3, well for every dollar you drop in the 2.3 if I were to match that you would never gain an inch. Then they'll say the SVT costs more and they would rather save there money to mod there 2.3 instead of having it done for them, this is just an excuse to make those who did not get or could not afford to get an svt feel better about them selfs. I bought mine for $13K with 11K miles on it, if you can buy and mod a 2.3 to beat my svt for $13K or less than more power to you.

*Warning* the opinions expressed in this post are strictly those of the poster and in no way represents the views or opinions of the svt owning comunity.

So don't say I make svt owners look bad, I'm just posting my own opinion. Damn that got old fast.

I'm sure you can find some 2003 2.3ls used for 6-7k, so that extra 6-7k left over can buy a lot of goodies.

And I'm willing to bet, mod for mod, the 2.3l will show more gains than a SVT. Its choked off while the SVT massaged from the factory, and there is no replacement for displacement.

.3 liters of displacment? and a lack of 20HP? You have good points, but even if you could find one for 6-7K you would have to look at brakes and suspension as well as motor work to equal a svt and some people may be able to install the stuff there selfs but most people can not so take instalation into consideration too. Also nice rims and nice tires can run you an easy grand.

I still don't get the "I saved money and have more left for mods" argument. People always say "well I saved $7,000 by not getting an SVT, that's money that I can put towards mods." Really? Did you have $20,000 cash saved up and you just went down to the dealer and paid up front in full? If you didn't and you're like most of us, you financed the car, and what you're really saying is you're freeing up a little bit more of your monthly income that would have otherwise been spent on a larger car payment. But that's not the same as having an instant $7,000 in cash available at your disposal.

Well, I slightly mis-read sidney's comments (missed the 'more power to you part' regarding mods). That was what I was addressing.

Just for the records, I'm not knocking on the SVT. I'm just supporting the Duratec engine.

Lots of dealers let you finance way over what the car is listed as and then hand you the extra money that did not go towards the car. For example, go to a dealer and finance a $15K car but tell them you want to take the loan out for $20K then ask them for the $5K extra so you can mod the hell out of your car you just bought. They all do it so give it a shot.

I almost forgot about that simple fact SVT4ME, thanks for reminding me.

Well that's news to me. They sure didn't let me do that, or I would have! Probably better in the long run not to have done it, though, because my interest rate on the loan wasn't the best and I would be overpaying for mods.

I was joking. Sorry about that, I have a bad sense of humor.
