A little comparison. I took my 04 SVT in for service and got a 2.3 loaner. Based on my carefully calibrated seat of the pants the 2.3 is quicker off the line, for the period of a second or two while the SVT spins up to 4,000 RPM. From there on the SVT is not only a whole lot faster, but it rewards the driver with the sounds of a jewel like Cosworth designed engine turning gas and air into horsepower like nothing else this side of a M3.

0 to 60 times do not tell the story. 20 to 80 times are more relevant to the sort of fun this SVT has to offer and the SVT is not done at 80.

Surprisingly, I also like the stock 2.0 a little better than the 2.3. The stock 2.0 is down on power, but it seems a little smoother and "lighter." The 2.0 seems to rev a little freer and the 2.0 SVT just seems effortless as it winds up. Like the General Electric CF-34's on my other ride, the SVT motor seems really happy the faster you turn it.

The 2.3 PZEV is a neat piece of technology. Wonder if we can fit three Focus cars in the garage:)

Not knocking the 2.3 because its actually a very well designed engine, but they are , in no way, any competition for an SVT. Guys dont get mad because im saying this, but its the truth. I have beaten cars that are far more powerful than the svt, but it comes down to power to weight and some driving skill, bottom line. The 2.3 is a good design or Cosworth wouldnt be using it and designing parts for it. But also remember that Cosworth designed the SVT engine and is under rated by the magazines. Every test that ive seen was performed on "northern" cars that have traction control. That kills the #'s considerably. I have personally seen a stock SVT run 0-60 in 6.1 sec. Yes, bone stock.

Err' OK. I have a 5.4 in my 04 Lariat also, which is a great engine, but the 5,200 lbs it is bolted to sort of slows down the fun. The new SVT designed Cobra will have "our" motor in something that weighs a ton ( or more ) less - Y I P P E E !

Coo Now I didnt post this so we could put down each others cars cuz hay we r all civilized focus crazed fanatics. (lets leave that to all the other cars we kill lol) But hay all of the focus cars that have come out have there weakness'es (is that a word lol) and streangths (not many weakness'es though) But I would like to race a 2.3 if ur a 2.3 in ABQ, NM look for me. Who ever wins still has the respect for winner and loser.

I have much love for all the focus's. I just like running with any of them... doesn't matter if I win or loose.

I read somewhere the 2.3's roots were from an F1 engine. Just detuned to the point of boredom. I think thats why It takes to mods so nicely.

My wife has a Mazda3 S (2.3) but with VCT and I can CRUSH her...'course, I'm not stock and she is...

p.s. She's getting all the Cosworth d-Power upgrades....intake manifold to supercharger..mwahahaha.

I have an svt, but I would much rather have an SVT tuned 2.3 duratec. The engines better, but regardless even if the duratec was faster, the SVT focus is the king of the USDM foci. Thats a whole 'nother game when you throw it into UKDM, between the RS, RS8, etc.
