oil cap help, not comming off!

Hey Guys,
I just got a 2000 zx3 in decent conditions but a lot of miles. When I was under the hood the other day just checking everything I tried to unsrew the oil cap and it is not comming off. It is acting sort of like a medicine bottle cap. When you turn it it just goes "click, click, click..." but it won't unsrew. I tried putting pressure on it and turning it but it will still not come off, it will also do the same thing when I am turning it clockwise. I have checked on other websites and even the owners manual just says "turn counterclockwise" any ideas of what is going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well its trash heres what you do pull the top peice the part that goes click click click off and discard it you will be left with the bottom peice of the oil cap still in the treads you then get a pair of pliers and grab on to it to take it off it might even be loose enough to use your hand but i dought it. Make sure you have a new oil cap before you do this go to an auto parts store and pick one up for $5.00.

Huh ?
My oil cap is a one peice. When I turn it, the whole cap moves.

Are you talking about an aftermarket oil cap that's stuck ?

Does the cap have the recommended oil weight on it ?

No, the first post worked, thank you. When I took it out it looks like the one it had (not sure if it was the factory piece) was a two piece part and the teeth that hooked the top part to the screw had worn out.

Yeah, the car has 125,000 miles. It was a one owner car and it was highway miles. He had all of the records for oil changes and he did change it every 3,000 miles, that's about 40 oil changes so I can see how it could wear out!!

Here's a drawing. The bottom piece is the actual "Cap"...it has three little plastic clips that hold onto the threaded-part. It also has a clip that sticks up that has a spring in it. The clip has raised grooves which fit into the grooves in the thread-hole

the threaded part has a base whick is held by the "cap" and has a hole in the middle. In the hole are bumps/grooves which fit in with the cap clip. This is what makes the "clicking noise"...it's a rudimentary torque device.
