Question ? About LED Tail/Brake Lights for 2007 Sedan

I'd like to replace the two bulbs (reverse & brake) with LED bulbs. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and can help me answer a couple of questions.

On the website superbrightleds.com (suggested by another member), I have some LED's I'd like to buy. I know that I will need an "LED Flasher" or load resistor to prevent "Hyper-Flashing". But I'm unsure the wiring of the connections to know which bulbs/flashers to buy.

Has anyone purchased from here, or done these conversions before?

Appreciate the help guys!

Moved to the MkI section for the best answers & easier searching.

You might find more info. in the MkII section as well since many have been doing this type of mod lately.

Thanks Sailor. I appreciate it.

Update: Apparently, the LED Flasher/Load Resistors that they have are not compatible with my '07 SE.

Does anyone here have any guides or input on what I can do to properly implement the LED's into my reverse/brake lights? I don't want my turns to be hyper-flashing, lol.

Thanks guys.

I have a bit of experience with this subject matter. I drive a 07 ZX3 and have LED reverse lights with no issue or need for resistor. The 3157 stop/tail/turn bulb is a different story. I have installed and tested a new LED design and even with a 21W resistor it still hyper flashed. I will try a different solution this weekend and give a report. There is no good LED on the market with a built in resistor. It is not feasible. There is also no street legal LED retrofit bulbs available on the market except for Philips available on-line or at Pep Boys.

Hey Wooley,

Where are you placing the resistor for blinking tail lights when you are experimenting? I can also give this a try and hopefully we can figure this out together. Also, which LED did you purchase for your tail lights?

I'm looking into buying these for my reverse:

For brake/turn signals... these:

They are expensive, but I think worth it. Let me know which ones you got.

I bought some also, im going to give it a shot here soon ill let you know how mine goes.

I just bought the cheap ones off e-bay 4 of the turn style 3157

They might not be bright enough though.

My thought is you want "dual intensity" for both front and rear. Mine use a single bulb in the front and back and change in brightness when i use turn signal, brakes and hazards.

I also bought an adjustable LED flasher ill see how this works.

My whole thought is why use load resistors? the whole point of the LED is to draw little to no power with the longevity of the LED. Adding the resistors just bumps the power draw backup just to make the blinker relay function.

I think the flasher was like $13. and the 4 LED 3157 bulbs were $15. for all 4

I didnt want to put a bunch of money into em in case i cant get em to work.

I am thinking about purchasing two of these if your approach doesn't work:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...r-kit/190/831/

Ideally, I like your approach with using a flasher. I don't like the double-filament bulbs that our vehicles uses because I don't like how they are always dim and get brighter to blink. I would like to have the light blink from completely off to completely on. So if the flasher approach works, please let us know.

Which flasher did you get?

Can someone point me in the direction of some good to great reverse LED's? I'm too afraid of getting reverse lights from Ebay and they are $25/bulb on superbright. Not really in the mood to put down $50 on that set alone.

Also, you only have to worry about using the appropriate LED's/lighting in the fronts, correct? Meaning, is it possible to get a ticket if you have LED's in the brake/reverse area's of the car?

I thought the only way you can get tickets if you change the color of the front turn signals?

I looked on the superbrightLED site and some of their bulbs look good and some look just like what you can get on e-bay just higher priced.

Exactly that point.

I want to get good LED's but not pay a lot for them if they are the same quality as Ebay.

Also, I don't want there to be issues with any reverse or brake LED's that I do install. I know better than to touch the headlights without doing a full conversion because it is illegal.

If anyone has experience with any LED's on Ebay, please let me know. I believe I need 3156 (if memory serves me right) style LED's for the reverse.
