The cheap Ebay and other Chinese lights are crappy thinner plastic than OEM are, but regardless ALL will eventually fail the adjusters when they get so tight from sitting that the plastic fails to then break when you adjust them.

Refinishing does not work like it used to, they changed the plastic to stop you from doing it, the plastic now fractures internally and why all the refinish work in the world does no good any more. Earlier ones could be refinished more than once to work like brand new. I have two Tempos with headlights like that, they go brown from sun, I refinish and they look like brand new with same light output. Contour? No, the same problem as Focus, the newer plastic fractures. It also doesn't accept clear enamel overcoat as well either, it tries to craze which just makes things worse. The Tempo plastic does not do that at all.

Thank Ford for that, an effort to get you to buy $200 headlight assemblies.
Fix the driver first, then fixing the car becomes so much easier.

This is a little late, mostly for the latecomers using search button: if budget demands you go with aftermarket headlamp housings, go with something CAPA certified. TYC for example, sells economy level (non-certified), and NSF certified (material quality only), and CAPA certified. The CAPA-cert headlights give you the best chance at a good consistent lighting pattern from a light that will last; supposed to be fairly close to oem - can't obtain CAPA cert without the pattern and materials being close to oem levels.
