Clutch options??

So as most of you know im putting down a pretty good amount of power on my focus that is daily driven. around 500whp. I have had to get custom clutches made by Lonnie at CM. It seems though that no matter what i do i have clutch issues. (it keeps popping the springs out of it).

So first question is, is anyone else daily driving their 500whp focus, and if so what are you all using for your clutches? How is the clutch engagement? Is there a clutch out there that will last more than a year or 2 that has a normal clutch engagement (not the choppy engagement) that can handle a daily driven car like ours?

Also as some of you might know im also currently building my new drift car for my next level competition of drifting (240sx with upwards of 500whp). well In the 240 world they have this clutch setup called the white bunny clutch which is basically they use a larger flywheel and larger clutch that comes out of different cars like the rb20 or 350z with a larger contact surface area and bolt it to the ka. By doing this you get a stock clutch pedal feel and engagement that can hold 400+ whp and a simple stg 2 can handle well over 500whp. So all that got me thinking. Is there anything like this that we can do to the zetech focus with the mtx75 trans. In turn getting a clutch that engages smooth or smoother than a stg 4 or 5 clutch that can handle a 500whp ford focus.

I say we put our heads together and see if we can discover anything like this.

There isnt anything out there like what your talking about

Big problem were limited on belhousing space , the Caterhams I do with the Zetec or Duratec use a simple older larger 302 Clutch that cost about 60.00 and they hold for years altho there not making 400hp most race or drive then weekly

I went through the same thing and would have to replace my CM4 about every 1.5-2 years racing it a good bit
I looked into making a clutch and Fly through a company ( competation clutch ) but at the time it was going to be very costly and not many people needed them and the same falls true now .... not a big need for them

I would call and talk to Competition Clutch , there good guys and the owner knows me and see if he can make you something , its worth a phone call , worst that can happen is your back where you are now

i asked the longevity question quite a bit when i was starting my build. kept getting told it is easy to drive but takes getting used to. never got any answers on longevity.

on another note, how are you doing on your traction issues anyway? i remember you flared your fenders and put cobra 17x9s on there.

apparently the way it grabs is different from a single disk clutch. no first hand knowledge myself.

ill see later on if i can dig up the exact conversation about it. dont have time right at the moment. stay tuned

I have experience in my 180sx. The twin disk grabs harder and engages quicker.

It holds good power. If you feather it many times, such that you're on a hill, you can heat soak the disks and wear them out quicker.

When you start the car or engage the clutch you'll hear a sheering sound. It's the disks rattling. No harm.

It took me about 2 days to get use to driving it.
