daily driver exhaust

Hey guys, I'm new here. I had an old junker that broke down and it was replaced by my grandfathers 2001 ford focus zx3. Just about the only "upgrade" I've done is an intake resonator delete (I know that's not truly an upgrade). I need a new throttle body as the stock one is plastic and sticks (heard there was a TSB on that?). But AFTER that, I planned on doing a new exhaust, hopefully all the way through (headers to tips). I'm not a racer and I'm not the richest guy so I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on a good exhaust system that will pass inspection in PA (needs to pass emissions) I was looking into the fswerks stealth system but does that have a cat system? any other ideas? Anything a DIY sunday mechanic like myself is overlooking in this process? Thanks in advance!!

No idea what your regulations are there but the Stealth will remove your secondary cat

I have recently replaced my exhaust with stock size tubing, magnaflow muffler and resonator delete. I am really happy with it as it continues to break in. Its a subtle exhaust note, but still very enjoyable. Nothing ricey about it.

I'm in the 'I'd rather sneak up on em' camp vs the 'loud pipes save lives' crowd.

Is there a way to get performance without the noise? (like the OP, this is my DD)

A stealth system if you don't have one or looking for a system. If your just adding mufflers= look at magna-flow mufflers. Your looking for a 4''-6'' diameter round mufflers. You can do 2, 20''-24'' case length ones.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Looks like in my area as long as the car says emissions are good (via OBDII) and you can visually see the cat you're good to go. Any ideas now?

The Zetec doesn't have a secondary catalytic converter. It only has the catalytic converter right off the exhaust manifold and that's it. After that it goes to the flex-pipe, then the muffler before the axle and then the resonator at the rear of the exhaust pipe.

Any exhaust work that you have done from the cat-back is fine unless PA state inspections check Db levels. But most of the aftermarket exhausts that I have seen aren't that loud as long as you leave the stock catalytic converter in place. The FSwerks Stealth exhaust will be almost as quiet as being stock though.

I was looking to replace the stock cat with one under the car. I heard that a cat on the headers like that kills performance
