I own both, haven't raced myself yet though :) ... I keep planning to ... the GT is my wife's daily driver and only has a K&N drop in ... not a lot of aftermarket performance parts for the 3rd gen, just intake, udp's and suspension stuff ... there may be someone out there offering SC or turbo options but I haven't run across it yet.
I will say this, the car has been incredibly reliable, they are pretty quick and the gas mileage is great for a V6. You also can't go wrong with a convertible in florida.

yeah they are a great car. Convert awsome, extra weight though. But there are a lot of upgrades for the car, a guy i used to work with had a 2000 GT (2000 gt's have 10 extra hp for some reason) which made some where around 320 hp. The guy before him did the modign and it did have dino sheets to back up the numbers. He also had a 100hp wet spray in it. Very nice car. but even i looked into upgrades when i had mine, there are a lot out there if you look in the right spot. Manifolds, exhaust, turbos, everything.

I did a little poking around online and couldn't find much but I also didn't burn the midnight oil lookin for stuff --- I'm not really going to do much to her car ... she's happy as is ... getting to be tire replacement time though, and that alone will set me back 400 bones for a decent set ... You may be right about the 2000 models, not sure ... She did have an '03 that she totalled --- starting in '03, the GT spyders but not the GT coupes went up from 200 to 210hp ... so she lost a little power when we finished shopping after the accident but she gained leather, which was way more important to her ... lol

3rd gen shouldnt have been called eclipses in my opinion. eclipses should be dsms, be awd and turbo not FF v6...

Wait a second ... the only decent eclipse models among the 1st and 2nd gen are the turbo and/or turbo AWD models ... other than that your run of the mill RS's and GS's (slow FWD 4-bangers) are just that, run of the mill and would get their tails handed to them by the 3rd gen V6's ... I will say this, there are a lot of tuner parts that can be purchased for those run of the mill RS's and GS's, and you can build them up pretty well but in stock form, most of them couldn't stay with a base ZX3 ...

GS and RS models in those years came with the 420A motor from the Neon if I remember correctly. The GS Spyder's had a 4G64 rated at 140. And we all know the 4G63s.
