I have tried and tried and tried, and tonight I just went "hulk" on it, and now it's kind of drooping from the headliner. WHAT IS THE SECRET?! I just want to punch it into pieces!

You're trying to take the whole thing out?

Yep. I had a plan to gut the light section and put a square led panel in its place.

There you go:

LoL :)

This is how it goes out on "Euro" focus, Maybe it helps? There are screws under the seethrough plastic in order to get the whole thing out:

So, maybe try with this "seethrough" plastic part that goes around the light - maybe this should go first?!

I was able to get the plastic thing out easily with some gentle prying. When trying to pull the assembly I bent the metal reflector for the bulb some and was unable to pull it out of the headliner. Now it's really loose and is slightly hanging out from its place

As soon as the rain lightens up some, I'm gonna go back and literally rip it out.

Got it out! There's actually a metal frame that sits in the hole in the headliner for the light. The assembly was drooping because I bent the frame. So I bent it back in place when I had it out. Now I just need to do some measuring to see if a 3x3 LED panel will fit in there without the reflector in place. It's 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. Hoping to not have to do any cutting...

I would've just suggested some wedge-style LEDs as a direct replacement. That's what I did and they don't look half bad, IMHO.
