I get my car to rub almost every time I'm out there and in the past year ( 16 autocrosses ) I've only killed 3 cones.
You're going fast enough alright, but you're not driving smooth enough or you're not on the right line if you keep killing cones.

I have found that there is a whole level of vehicle control that I didn’t know existed (and I thought I was a pretty damn good driver). When I realized that I was leaving a lot of inherent performance untapped, I decided to leave my SVTF stock until I used up what the car had to offer. When I do modify, it’s clear that for me the money’s to be made in tire/wheel and suspension upgrades. Then engine upgrades (maybe nitrous for Saturday nights until then?). Perhaps "hobby" is to mild a word for those of us who are hooked. "Compusion" of "Addiction" would be more accurate.

Anyone else noticed that you get better times with two people in the car? Seems to transfer the weight better.

what i ment by you didnt hit many cones so you arent goign fast enough is this. i knwo for a fact u dotn have the skills yet u need to have auot-xign and car control down pact. so you not hitting cones menas you were takign ti easy and takign the easy line rather than goign all out.

Got a question about tire pressure. Suggested front pressure ranged from 49 (WD40) to 40 (Carrera26). I went midway and used 45. As I was airing up the front, it looked like the tire was about to come off the rim. The bead looked about 1/2 inch off the rim and I was worried the tire would blow. Is this normal?

Congrats on your placements! it looked like the tire was about to come off the rim. The bead looked about 1/2 inch off the rim and I was worried the tire would blow. Is this normal? I don't recall ever seeing my bead affected like that when changing tire pressures. IIRC, the max pressure on the stock Contis is 50psi. EDIT: Are you sure you weren't mistaking the "rim protector" for the bead? BTW, did you try the shoe polish trick? You can see where I mark mine in this pic....

Congrats on your placements! Thanks! I can't wait till Apr 17 to go again!!! Are you sure you weren't mistaking the "rim protector" for the bead? I think that might be it. It was the thick band on the edge of the tire that 'sits' on the rim. When I aired up to 45psi it looked to be about 1/2" off the rim. Just wanted to know if this is normal and wasn't sure what the MAX PSI was, so good to know (50). Mike |
