speakers: standard vs audiophile

Anybody know if the stock front speakers are any different than the front speakers in the audiophile setup? If a buddy offered to give me his audiophile stock speakers in exchange for a couple cases of beer...would it be an upgrade from my non-audiophile setup?

I've done some searches....everybody always swaps to aftermarket, not much talk about upgrading to the audiophile.

thx!

That seems like a lot of work for such a small upgrade. If you are only using the stock Head Unit, then it might be worth a case of beer.

...and they have their own little internal crossover, or is there actually different wiring coming to them with discrete channels for the tweater and the horn?

I'd like to upgrade...but my wife has this thing with aftermarket stuff in 'her' car. SVT and Mach upgrades seem to be what I'm allowed :)

i wouldn't imagine that they'd be much better than the regular ones. your system would have less bass too since the plate speakers have a smaller midbass. in my opinion, i wouldn't do it.

also, the headunit has a built in crossover whether its the audiophile 9006 or 6006. the 9006 just has a little more internally for the subwoofer output.

I remeber looking at a Focus with an audiophile when I bought mine (which just had the blaupunkt HU) and the description said it had 2-way speakers, and the non-audiophile systems have dual-cone speakers. (This was for the 2003 model year).
