The factory clutch has a tendency to fail. But Ford replaces them. There are resources about it all over this site. But yeah, Ford replaced mine with something different, and the new setup is fantastic! And I didn't have to spend a dime for it.

haha no one prolly posted since its 2:35 am and im the only one awake at this time since i just got home but there are alot of very known issues with the svt's mainly the tranny clutch/flywheel issues that are the biggest however there are tsb's out to remedy that problem. Other than that u can do some searches on the forums or just look around in the svt performance chat area and you can easily find things that are wrong in my opinion i think its a very good car and im glad i bought mine

I know the clutch is an issue, but I've been reading about the throttle body sticking and the dual stage intake runners failing to switch over. The leather seats are made of cheap leather, and only the front's are leather... and only the front and top parts are leather - the rest is vinyl. The 5 spoke wheels are prone to being wrecked from potholes.

Other than that, there really aren't many problems.

Since you already drive a ford, you know about the initial quality issues of fords. Mine came off the showroom floor a complete mess: sticky throttle, lousy tune, loose front bumper cowling, bad alignment, unbalanced tires, clattering clutch, creaky driver's seat, leaky valve cover gasket, leaky variable cam timing solenoid gasket, leaky fog lights and a few others that were REALLY annoying.

I was in some denial that any NEW car could have that many problems, I sort of limped along until 6,000 miles and decided to get things fixed or to junk it. Between 6,000 and 9,000 miles it made nine trips to the shop and was out of service for 25 days. Only one more thing showed up during that period, the shift linkage fell apart leaving me stuck in 1'st gear (finally a GOOD thing about a tall 1'st gear.)

For most of the stuff above, there is a TSB about it (TSB==less dealer hassles at fix time) and now my car is pretty damn good. Fast, comfortable, fun and reliable. No squeeks, and I'm getting the Hypnotic tune this week so, for a stock focus, it should be done.

Once you get over the initial quality problems, the SVT is hard to beat (across the board) sure cadilacs ride better, WRX's are faster, Civics hold their value better, NOTHING handles better, but every car has it's compromises and, in my humble opinion, the SVT as total package gives away very little. I can't think of another car I'd rather have.

Watch that clutch/flywheel issue. I'm at 29k miles and my dealer is giving me a real hassle about doing the work.
