Lights reminder chime

Hey all,

Just recently purchased a 2009 Ford Focus and over the past couple weeks of owning it I've noticed that every once in a while after I've arrived at my destination, turn off my lights, take my keys out of the ignition and open my door the chime reminding me that my lights are still on continues to go off even when my lights are no longer on. I then put the key back into the ignition and the chime stops even after taking my key out of the ignition again.

I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing this and why it would only happen sometimes? Any ideas?

Doesn't seem like it would have anything to do with the ignition since it still chimes after my lights are off.

Sticky ignition switch. Mine does ir regularly. If it does this, take your finger and "jab" into your ignition switch.

Is this the issue that's detailed in TSB 09-19-15?

The "key in ignition" and "lights on" reminder are the same buzzer and sound.

You're thinking it's telling you one thing and the car is thinking the other.

There's a tiny switch in the ignition lock assembly and it's sticking. When you leave the car it's thinking you forgot the key.

Thank you for the full explanation. So do I need a new ignition lock cylinder to resolve this?

Maybe, but see if jiggling or tapping the switch (as other poster mentioned) makes the buzzer shut up...to confirm that's what it is. Also, with the part price and labour considered, you may wish to see if u can free it up.

I'm sure there's come kind of lube or grease you could safely put in there and not damage any electronics.
