Tell us all your success/fail Focus stories! Write, write, write!

Proud 2001 Focus SE owner here.

205,700 original miles.

2 timing belts, 1 thermostat housing, 1 clutch, 3 mounts, 1 radiator, 1 reservoir tank, 3 set of tires, countless oil changes, 1 fuel pump and 2 serpentine belts later and this car still drives me to work everyday, with the A/C on full blast working as good as the first day.

I'm a diesel mechanic and I do all the work on my car and I would like to say thank you Ford engineers for such an amazing car and thank you fellow Focus owners that understand that taking care of a car is the only way to prove others that our Fords are not "horrible 4 bangers".

If you're interested, I'll tell you all how this car used to drive in the Utah mountains every weekend, 4 people inside, while towing a trailer with 4 dirtbikes on it, EVERY SUMMER WEEKEND.

My baby:

I have had my SVTF since the first week of March and within the first two weeks I got new tires and discovered that the lug nut holes were trashed. Found the clutch master cylinder leaking. The thermostat housing failed, changed it, fired up the car and it was running on 3 cylinders. Bought plugs and plug wires, still no change. Come to find one of the wires to the coil pack connector from the engine harness corroded through and broke off so I changed that. Then my left front brake caliper locked up. changed that and the car has treated me well since. Currently have brake kit in the mail and many many more things to work on.

Bought a 2000 se in march which had quite a few electrical issues effectively making the following non functional; radio, cruise control, brake lights, signal lights, heater fans, hatch open button, and door ajar warning while driving. A few fuses, sensors, switches, radio and a new blower motor made short work of them all (minus signal lights which I'll learn to live with).

With the blower working I was then able to smell the burning oil from the leaking valve cover, no biggie. The biggie was looking at all of the water that had pooled up over the spark plugs when the previous owner pressure washed the engine. New pugs and wires and the car finally sounded like it was running good.

While on a test drive the transmission was slipping bad so I decided to swap the filter and it has been driving good ever since. Also swapped the fuel, air, pcv and egr just because. The car runs really good. Was getting 15mpg, now getting 23 city!

Mine's a fail and short - My sunroof hasn't been working right at all, relearn doesn't work, pulled the glass to check better for stuck things and broke one the glass' support beam things. So I went from a sunroof that doesn't work right to a sunroof that I can't use at all. Yay me lol

When I first got my 2008 in April 2010, I was updating the sync system with whatever the latest update was for it. It didn't go well and I ended up completely breaking the entire sync system. I was so lucky I had warranty still.

PIRATE2.0 - is your SE a Ztec or SPI? Car body looks great. I couldn't help notice your headlights look a little frosted - is that just the photo or have you ever tried polishing and sealing them? I hear that Florida sun is brutal, just as brutal as the high altitude sun.
