Alright guys, the junkyard was closed today. I guess I should have foreseen this since it's the day before Easter. I'll go back sometime next week to exchange it. I have thought that if they will give me a refund instead of an exchange, I might do that instead. I'd really like to build a duratec engine, but with the budget I'd have to have to do it right, I could go buy myself a decent classic car to tinker with.

On the plus side, I got a new EGR valve in my car! Its a real pain in the butt, but since this is probably the fourth or fifth time I've done it, it was pretty easy. Hopefully the check engine light stays off and the car will run right. I was getting some RPM surge when driving at moderate load, and low RPM (around 2K) and I was getting a check engine light for "Electronic Control Circuit". I plugged in this other EGR valve, and ran the engine. The electronic control circuit went away, but it threw "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow" because nothing was going through the valve that was plugged in.

Hopefully the light will stay off!

Quick update:

Before I do build progress, heres just a quick update. The new EGR valve works and has kept all CEL's off. The car runs much nicer and is happier too.

Alright guys... I welded up part of my stainless downpipe tonight. I'll warn you, I'm not an excellent welder, but make due with the fact that I have a stick welder (pretty much the most archaic welder in the universe) but I know how to use it.

Biggest point of the night is: I ran the car! It runs pig rich, but it runs. It runs rich because it has about a million exhaust leaks since everything is just tack welded. I'll include a video. I didn't run it long since it was late at night and I have neighbors. I had the downpipe open, and revved to 3K rpm then shut it off.

Now, it's not technically turbocharged yet, meaning no boost. So I'm still running the stock tune. Just want to clarify that.

Anyway, I am a little short winded tonight (really tired, it's 1AM right now) so I'll just post pictures with captions. Hopefully it will explain everything for you.

Here's a picture of my 300 cell catalytic converter. A little less flow than I wanted, but I can't complain.

Top pipe is my wastegate dump pipe. Has a resonator and opens up to 2" at the end. Below that is my new 2.5" stainless downpipe with cat.

I put in this O2 bung. I guess it's pretty good for being a stick welder...

Dump pipe beside stock exhaust.

Dump pipe and downpipe installed.

Not sure if this will attach. Here's a video of it running with the open downpipe.

That's all I have for now!

Love your buddys festi. I had a 88 1.3 Carbed with a 5 speed. Loved that car death!! But good luck with the build on the focus. If you ever want a fun rag top to play with look for a Mercury Capri XR2. They came 5 speed 1.6 turbocharged. They are fun ass cars and a reich racing computer really wakes those cars up!!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Always appreciated.

That Festiva was a ton of fun! I probably drove the car more than he did because it was so much fun. It was the fuel injected 1.3L. I took on a 4.0 explorer and that red Miata. I'd have had the explorer if it weren't for me missing second gear due to terribly worn shifter bushings, and if the Festiva had a little more top end, I'd have had the Miata. We had planned on strapping a turbo to it, but never got around to it. It was a rust bucket anyway, happy to unload it. Moral of the story, never look at cars in the dark, and don't expect much for $600.

This weekend I plan on running some charge piping, and properly mounting the Intercooler. I'm not sure if I've ever posted pictures, but I do have a blow off valve already (pretty cheap one, but it will do the trick.) I already know I'm going to have to relocate some stuff to run the piping the way I want, but that's okay. The horns will have to be moved for sure. I'm thinking I'll have to move the power steering reservoir because of how close it is to the turbo inlet. I can't get a filter in there, but I'm also limited with options of where to run piping so I can put in a filter. Oh the frustrations of going custom turbo...

I should be going to the junk yard for sure this weekend to exchange the engine. That is, if they don't decide to be closed again... Hopefully I get a good engine this time! If I can convince the owner of the yard to exchange for a 2.3, I'll do that. Right now, he wants to exchange me for a higher mileage motor for the same money. 52k miles isn't a ton, but I didn't pay for a motor with that many more miles in the first place.

I'll post progress of the weekend for sure!

As far as the MG idea is concerned, I found something a little more intriguing. It's a 1973 Ford Pinto Wagon. Originally a 4 speed car. I've been considering doing a Mustang V6 swap (V8 is too mainstream for me) or doing a turbo four cylinder. The car is a rolling chassis for $650. It's in pretty good condition for 1973 too. The wood paneling has sorta come off on the outside of the car, but the inside is in good shape! I'm not a huge fan of wood paneling anyway, so I'll just remove all the trip and repaint the car. Probably the same yellow, or something a little brighter. I'll try to include some pictures for you guys!
I also discovered that the pinto has the same 4x108 wheel bolt pattern, so I can upgrade the front brakes with some focus parts, and use focus wheels.

Interior:

Here you can get a good idea for the missing paneling on the outside:

Yeah, like I said, It was originally a 4 speed manual car. Which will make an easier avenue into a modern 5 speed for that car.
