Well like it or not dual exhaust seems to work just fine for the Subarus. Just ask any of their engineers.

its not a true dual, it purely for visuals and has nothing to do with engineering. like, how they loose power, using unequal length headers, to make the helicopter sound.

I have installed equal length long tube headers on STIs and the "boat motor" sound completely disappears...

i agree, the latest thing from car companies seems to be putting duals on 4 cyl cars. looks silly imo. even the euro ST looks silly. 1 bank of cylinders = 1 exhaust. i can see a split tip where there are two tailpipes off the same piping next to eachother (02-05 EP3 civic for example)

That sound is coming from the fact that Subaru uses horizontally opposed engines(flat 4 or 6,depending on the vehicle).

no, no it is not. Porsche does not sound like that. BMW bikes don't sound like that. and if you change to a functional exhaust the sound goes away. look it up. Harley is the same, unequal length exhaust and offset wrist pins make it have the "Harley sound".

You're talking about motorcycle exhaust and that's completely different from car exhaust. Plus, most of these motorcycles use V twin engines, which is different from a flat 4.

Also, boxer engines tend to be noisier for intrinsic and other reasons. In most cars cases valve clatter under the hood isn't damped by large air filters and other components.
