In my neighborhood, that's entirely probable. Bet he just had weed in the car too, not even anything worth the trouble. He had the fender damage before this incident, though...I wish I'd gotten a good look at the owner.

That'll ruin your day.
It's what happens when you buy crappy wheels like Rotas, MB Motoring, Voxx, ADR, Lexani's, etc... Hence why on really well done cars you don't see shitty wheels. You see BBS's, CCW's, Works, Simmons, Sterns, iForged's, OZ's, Ronals, Borbets, Speedlines, etc... Not saying those wheel brands don't fail from time to time but they are made better and stronger so they won't fail under performance driving.

That's gotta be the side the hit the pavement. Just saw a new GT500 at the Ford Dealer with the same.

Here's more than likely exactly what happened with that car:

^ But Ken, how does that happen? How does the wheel just "fail" out of nowhere like that? I assume a fault in production...or just general cheapness of materials, and inability to handle impact.

only thing i can figure is most rims are composed of 2 parts the center part that looks all prity and stuff and the outter rim the round part the tire goes on. when they make the rim the make the inner part and take that and then they take the outter part heat it up slip in the inner part and weld it. thats how you get the lip on the rim. it's all where they place the inner part when the fuse the two.. now if the rim maker was to not weld that part right and they are normally made my robots then the weld could fail and the outter part could come off and all you left with in the inner part of the rim. then if he stood on the brakes and came to a skidding hult you would get this as an out come. now what i can't figure out is what the hell happened to the brak caliper? i can see part of it but thats not a moving part why would it get grinded down.... it might be the angle of the picture and the rim is covering up the rest of it... IDK...

Cheapness in materials, cheapness in design, cheap build quality. Brands like ADR and Rota are mainly cheapness in materials which cause the design to fail. Brands like Rota and ADR copy designs of higher quality brands but invest less into the materials and build quality so hence why the designs fail.

Reminds me of this lady I saw driving the other day. I was leaving for work about to turn on this 5 lane road, which is 45mpg. I see this car going like 15mph. Well when I turn on the road and quickly pass her, I see she is driving on her rim. The tire is almost completely gone and this lade is still driving like 15mph on it. Some drivers just dont make sense. I get you had a flat or a blow out but not only are you needing a new tire now, you have to get a new rim. Not to mention if she destroyed anything else in the process. Plus slowing down morning traffic and possibly cause another accident...
