Traded in my SVT for an R56 Mini Cooper S

Hey y'all,
While I loved my '03 SVT, it was really starting to show its age, and while I am decently mechanically inclined, I just no longer had the time to keep on messing with it, so I have sold it and bought myself a low mileage 2007 Mini Cooper S, and I thought I'd share my impressions on the two cars (in terms of driveability). While these cars seem quite similar on paper (aside from price), they could not be more different!

My first impressions upon starting up the Mini: I definitely liked the exhaust note of the SVT more: the SVT has a lower, more throaty growl that I like. I also liked the interior of the SVT more: I miss those leather Recaros.
The Mini seems to rev easier/quicker and gets a LOT more torque in the lower RPM's. The two cars have pretty much the same horsepower, but the turbocharged Mini has about 40 more pounds of torque, which you can really feel down low; whereas the SVT doesn't seem to really get much torque before 3k RPM's.

The Mini also has a LSD, and traction control that you can actually turn all the way off (my biggest gripe with the SVT...). When turning, the Mini seems to have a bit less body roll as well, but when turning hard, I start to miss the way the Recaros in the SVT really hold you in.

All in all, I feel like the Mini does all the things I wish my SVT did, but I still miss it sometimes.

Good luck with your Mini, I hope you will enjoy it as much as you enjoyed your SVT.

I actually traded a 07 Cooper S for my current 14' Focus. I loved my R56. It's a great car and ton of fun to drive. Just make sure you take care of it. They can be a bit high maintance if you slack on the upkeep. Good luck man!

Ooooh yes I am aware. I had a little scare when I first got it not knowing how much oil they consume!

Yeah and they are sensitive to oil level.

Also do yourself a favor as the engines has a weak upper timing chain guide. its as easy as removing the valve cover and swapping guides, but worthwhile.

if you ever get a rattle at startup, it's either that or the tensioner itself.

I had thought about replacing my SVT with a new Mini but I really hate what they did with dash set up. Mini is now off the list. Good luck with yours.
