That's a tough one, but when I really think about it, I'd keep the 2.3.

Well, he has an auto tranny and I think 150whp is about all that it can handle.
If it was a manual, I would definitely keep the 2.3L.

If you get the Zetec, make sure it's got a manual tranny or you'll be retricted by the auto trannys capability to handle power above 150whp.

Ooo, very good point. If both are auto I'd stick with the 2.3

If the zetec's a manual... well that's a really tough call.

well if having a warrenty is important to you i would go with the 2.3 auto cause i am pretty sure the 2.0 with the jrsc wouldnt have a warrenty. but if that doesn't matter i would go for th 2.0 if it was manual. if there both auto i would go with the 2.3

I would go with the JRSC for the noise it makes at high rpm. Not to mention that you'll be able to hang out in the Force Induction forum...
Also, if I'm not mistaking, a JRSC should be a little more performant 150WHP compared to 130WHP for the 2.3L.

great input everyone.... well I just got back from the dealer. The zetec is a manual and that was the major reason I was looking into it. In it's stock form the 2.3L auto has lots more pep/ torquey (is that a word???) for off the light take offs and everyday driving. I won't ever be at the track so high speed was never a concern. After driving it, my feelings is that there would have to be a pretty significatance in performance to do this trade.... then to top it off they won't finance past the asking price of the car. So my upside down-ness of my car being traded in won't even be rolled in???? let alone the JRSC... they told me to shop around for other banks that might be able to do the roll in.... that sort of sucks.

I need to be happy with my car.

Yep be happy with it man, seriously. The 2.3 is awesome, I'd keep it auto or not. There's just so much potential with it, and there's so many tranny upgrades out there now for less than the price of a JRSC you can get the tranny upgraded down the road.

I had an 01 ZX3 atx I gave to my sister and bought an 03 mtx. I wish I woulda just stuck with my 01 really, it was paid off and now I have car payments, but I got myself so worried about performance it didn't matter. Remember, time spent racing makes up a very very small % of the time your in the car, most of the time you're just driving. A peppy little 2.3 auto would be a great daily driver. Throw on a couple boltons, then later down the road when more major parts are out for it, spring for those and lentech the tranny

edit- perhaps one of the coolest reasons to stay with the 2.3....the Cosworth stage packages

Hmm, i'm a manual type of guy , all my old automatic cars just never gave me any sort of thrill. So for me the tranny would be a huge factor

no_peg - that's basically what this tread came down too. I love my car but in the back of my head it bugs me I didn't look for a manual. Most of all the cars I have owned were sticks.

however, like romaczx3 mentioned, this is my daily driver that will never be raced. I'm sort of just being anal about the performance aspect. Because in reality it is a very peppy car and that's all it'll ever use it for. Maybe I should just buy a 50 shot of nitrous to ease my mind about performance. I'll probably never use it, just like I never beat or tested my Mustang Bullitt. But it was good knowing I had it just in case
