Shopping for new Focus 5sp hatch

I had my heart set on a new Focus SE hatch, 5sp, blue candy with the 201 package. I love that color and styling and had read a lot of good reviews about the car. The price was for me, too. It took some work to find a dealer that even had a 5 speed to test drive, but I did and thought I would be leaving there with a new car.

I have to admit the car's power let me down. For me, it had very little throttle response, both from starting off the line and picking up speed on the highway. I still love the look of the car and liked the ride and handling. To say the least, my parade got rained on.

Has anyone else had this experience? I see people on here modifying the car with tuning, intakes, exhausts, etc.. How effective are these mods? What is a ballpark figure to feel a difference in power?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I have had the same experience. I loved the car overall except the power was lacking. I went ahead and got the car any way, its not a race car, and if you REALLY need to go fast you can ring out those RPM's to get plenty of useable power. For me its the down low grunt that needs just a liiiiitle bump.

As for mods, I cannot help you there, as I have yet to do anything power related to mine. I did find lots of good info in the dyn085 build thread, where he worked his upgrades one at a time, with dyno time. Good read in the builds section~

I have a 2013 Blue Candy SE Hatchback. I have found the driveability for everyday suburban driving as well as highway driving to be very satisfactory. To me the biggest drawback is that there isn't a sixth speed. The engine is running 3000 rpm at 70 mph which clearly impacts fuel economy. But, the fuel economy around town is fantastic if you drive it carefully.

Hey George, I have 2013 5 speed hatch with the Injected Engineering tune and K&N cold air filter. The combination smooths out the power band, and brings extra oomph to first gear, which gives me plenty of take off power, and smoother take off as well.

Search both topics here within the MK3 discussion forums, and you will find plenty of info.

Just hit 19,000 and could not be happier.

So you have a 2012, and you were let down by the power of a 2014 5 speed? The manual is a bit faster than the DCT, but still the 2012 and 2014 make the same power, you should have known what to expect.

Thank you for the replies. I welcome any other input.

Goingtoscotland, I apologize for the confusion. I do not currently own a Focus. I put in a 2012 because at the time of making the profile I was looking at a used 2012 Focus. I updated my profile to avoid future misinterpretations.

I think I am still going to go with a Focus and make some mods. I have my feelers out to dealers in Ohio and Maryland. The prices seem to be better out of state and I don't mind the day trip to get the car. Now I just have to see if the dealers will live up to their advertised prices.

I will keep you posted.

The main reason I am not considering an ST is the price. Another reason is I am adamant about the Candy Blue.

I pulled the trigger on a new SE hatch 5 speed in Blue Candy. I found the best deal in Ohio. I flew out there this morning and just got back from the 575 mile drive. The car drove great and, although I have a biased opinion, the car felt stronger than the one I test drove. Will post more pics soon.

What's the difference ($) between the Titanium (I think it's the higher equipment option) and the ST?

MODERATORS: how this happened? Silverpony2001 didn't comment in this thread and I didn't quoted him.... WEIRD! I'm scared!
