Opinions Wanted!

thinking about going 215/40/18 or 225/40 in an all season tire. i say all season because i really dont want summer tires. so i'm trying to a find a tire that won't give in on potholes and bend my wheels and that i can use in snowy & icy weather despite being such a low profile tire. can anyone point me in the direction of such a tire? or hell, even give your opinion on running either of those sizes all year round.

How badly do you want to run 18's? Plus sizing the wheel means the tire sidewall has to shrink. There really isnt a middle compromise, only so much of a larger size tire will fit in your wheel wells.

17's look great on our cars and you still get decent sidewalls

Well after seeing my car on 18s and riding on them I felt convinced I want 18s. I loved how they looked and want to pull this off all year round. Not really a fan of switching wheels as I run my 17s all year round regardless of whether.

215/45-17 is the perfect size for these cars and will ultimately give you the balance of performance and appearance that you want without any drawbacks.

I've been using the Hankook Ventus V2 this winter on my 16" wheels (205/55-16) and I'm constantly surprised at how well they perform on dry pavement for an all-season tire. Usually all-season tires lack response and grip in lieu of wet and snow traction but these have been stellar through deep snow and pouring rain as well. We're in roughly the same region so your weather isn't much different than mine.

It's almost time to switch back to my Falken FK453 for summer, but the Hankooks were definitely a good choice.
