Complete center console/cupholder replacement?

Before i say anything bear with me... I keep thinking, "What else could I do to really improve my interior satisfaction with my car?"

I have an SE with the 2 vertical cupholders (VS horizontal layout in titaniums)

I just do not like the layout of how the armrest overextends the way it does. When i was trying to think of something as an example of what i would want the best thing i could think of (unless anyone has any better ideas) is my buddies RX-8 that he had.

Pic for reference (best i could find sorry):

Essentially, the part that is flipped up also slides forward and covers the cup holders when they are not in use, so it doubles as an armrest.

I also like how it comes all the way through and completely separates the driver and passenger sides, eliminating the 5th passenger center spot in the back seat wouldnt be a conflict for me.

LONG STORY SHORT: How could I do this? Does something like this exist? How hard would it be to fabricate custom?

Thanks and hopefully it doesnt sound like too crazy of an idea lol

Sounds like a project. The hardest part sounds like it would be getting the e brake and shifter to fit properly. You don't like the Ti style console either? That would seem like a lot easier to retrofit.

The picture is an RX-8 aka something like what I want. I think you misread. I have a 12 SE with vertical cup holders

little update on exactly what the piece will look like. found one for around $100 on ebay:

obviously, length would be of concern. most likely it would be too short but im sure i could get creative with something extending from the middle of the backseat. also, i would no longer be able to fold down the rear seat. minor issue but just want to explore everything before starting.

only other concerns i can think of would be fitting it cleanly around the shifter (5spd manual) and the e-brake.
NOTE: IT WOULD HAVE TO BE MOUNTED HIGH ENOUGH TO REST ELBOW BUT LOW ENOUGH TO FIT UNDER AND/OR CLEANLY AROUND SHIFTER

thoughts?
