EAP Focus SVT on Craigslist, What do you guys think?

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/4346862569.html

I've been looking for a zx3 or svt focus for a while and haven't seen many I like. Always too many miles or automatic. This is a little more than I wanted to pay but I love it. I tried to get him down to something like $5500 but he's not wanting to go any lower right now. $5800 doesn't seem too unfair for that amount of miles.

I have a mechanic bro-in-law that could probably do the timing belt which would save money on that.

It has a clean title. He said it has a small dent on the rear quarter panel and small scuff on front bumper. Driver side seat heater sticks on every now and then.

I love the seats. That side bolstering is nice. And the wheels. And the headlights. And color.

i think it is rare to see an SVT in that good of condition with that few miles.

I would jump at it, even at the $5800 price. I have heard of several with higher asking prices with more miles in worse condition.

Check for front-end damage. The bumper cover is a standard ZX3 cover. Likely was involved in an ass-ender.

the sticking seat heat is usually just the switch...he probably spilled something on it at one point. easy enough to pull apart the switch and clean out.

Cash in hand always helps your bargaining abilities, bet you can get him down a little more.

The bumper is not original to the car like ScreaminE mentioned, so i would look into that as a potential accident

Sounds pretty good to me. If I was looking I'd probably take it

I drove this. It's a nice car, and it has been well taken care of. If you like, I can go look at it some more, take pics of whatever you want and any questions you have, I'll ask. Join our little community and I'll do the timing belt for you. You buy the parts. BTW, he was asking a whole lot more for it earlier. It's priced decent for what it is, a nice clean low mileage EAP SVT.

Actually, now that I look at it a little closer, I don't think that this was the SVT I drove. I can go look at it for you though and really check it out. I'm a stickler for details. Plus, I can take two or three other SVT guys with me to catch anything I miss.

Yep, that car has been wrecked and repaired with incorrect front bumper cover. That's a red flag for me. Fixing minor damage is not a big deal, but not even bothering to do it right is.

Hard to find the right front plastic now, wonder how old the damage.

Look it over close with that hint, if it wasn't bent underneath could still be a decent deal.

If it's been in an accident in the front end, double check that the A/C is working as well. The core support should also be inspected to see if it was replaced, looked clean until the front bumper issue. If the car is nice enough offer 4,000 for it, I wouldn't consider it a lowball figure due to the cost of making the car right.

Wow you guys are good, I didn't notice the different bumper. He said he had someone coming to look at it today and he'd get back to me if he still had it after that. I live about 3 hours away from it so I can't really just drop by and check it out in person. If I'm paying that much for it I'd rather not have one that's been smashed in the front end.

That would be great. I don't really know a ton about them. I've read quite a bit here but you guys are a lot more knowledgeable than me. If you want to check out the front end and see if anything is bent or if the core support has been replaced (as ztecpower stated). Also the A/C. Maybe see how bad the dent and scuff is also. Whatever else you can think of. Thanks!

He didn't seem willing to bargain at this time but if I mention the front end issue maybe he will.

Thanks everybody.
