Wish I could have afforded the Mazda3 hatch. Mazda dealers would only come off their MSRP by $500. Ford came down $4k. That's the only reason I ended up with the Focus. Love the car, but would still trade for a 2014 Mazda3 if my terms and payments would stay the same.

I like the performance numbers of the Mazda 3,especial with the 2.5 but i dont like the way they look. I think the Focus looks way better.

I really like the ratios of the 5sp and would leave them alone. It would be great to have a 6th gear for a bit better mpg on the highway.

The new 14+ Mazda3 is gorgeous. More so than the Mk3 in my eyes.

I definitley think the mazda is the nicest car in the segment but i dont know, just something about the front end that i just love about the Focus. The Mazda is a great car though. My buddy has a Mazda speed3 and it is one of the fastest cars i've ever driven.

Don't feel too bad. I own both cars and I prefer driving the MK3 over the Mazda. The Mazda is a nice car but it is just not as fun to drive. The Focus has better feel to the steering and I am much more confident with the handling. The 3 just feels like a larger car. You sound like a driving enthusiast so I think you would prefer the Focus. The 3 has a nice 6 speed auto, bought it for the wife and she loves it.

I suggest making friends with someone who has a car that's actually fast. A WRX/STi, Evo, Z06, any Porsche, or something really cool like a built FD RX-7.

I come from liter bikes, so all cars are pretty slow for me, which is why I didn't feel the need to even look at the ST or MS3, etc.

You have a 14+ Mazda3 or a previous gen? I drove my brother's 08 quite often a few years ago and it drove/handled a bit better than my Mk3. I never got a chance to really wring out a new Mazda3 when I test drove it, but it seemed a bit better at the mild pace I had going. I also haven't read a single review/comparison that cited better handling in the Mk3 over the Mazda

Don't get me wrong, I love the car, and it handles very well, but if Mazda had come down enough on the price I wouldn't be here right now. I'll be putting a set of Steeda springs and a rear sway bar in this summer, hopefully, which should really improve things.

I own a 2014 Mazda 3i GT. I love the car, just have more fun driving the Focus.
