Where Should This Wire Connect?

Hi All,

I have been working on my sister's '03 Focus with 2L SPI engine. While cleaning up a bit under the hood I found this wire and connector coiled up and tucked behind the valve cover. It looks like it could attach to the ground tab on the ignition coil, but it doesn't fit. Perhaps something is missing.

Can someone tell me what it is supposed to be connected to and should I be worried about it? The car runs OK with it hanging in space; it just seems odd.

Thanks

Thanks Poppop. It does indeed appear that the noise suppressor is missing. This would mainly be a problem for AM reception, which is why my sister has never complained about radio static/noise. I wonder how long ago someone removed it from the car.

I wonder what it will cost to find a replacement.

Thanks again.

You bet-

If you get down to the Hagerstown Md. area I have a few here you can have.I would guess the ford stealership is the only place to get a new one.

So far I found a part number, YS4Z-18801-BA, but it appears to be obsolete. Haven't found a replacement number yet. Hagerstown is a bit of a drive from Pittsburgh are for a capacitor. All they in good shape? I could Paypal you $5 to mail me one. Send me a PM if that could work.

I will check at my local dealership tomorrow. If I am going to pay too much for a capacitor I may as well support the local guys.

Just go to the junk yard man. Save you time and money searching on the web.

Surfing the net is free. How does driving to junk yards save me money? I did call my local yards with no luck. Apparently this part disappears when the engine or ignition coil is pulled.

Ford dealerships in my area don't have one; they found 2 in their inventory system - one in Kansas and one in Texas. I called the Kansas dealership and while they had a bin for the part, the bin was empty.

Looks like I will either not bother replacing this part or I will buy a generic one from a different car and make it fit.
