What tools will i need for a tranny swap, clutch swap and posi swap
I have a MTX75 5spd, NS4R-NA
Ok old tranny is toast and have a 10k mile one on the way same year and part #. I Have the ford service manuals that shows the whole removal/disassmebly. I was wondering if anyone has done this. What would I need to buy to swap them over. I hoping to reuse the spec stage 3 clutch and posi unit it came wiht. Anyone know about how much time it would be to take it out?? And swap over the parts. I dont have a clutch alignment tool since the clutch was in the car when bought. Anyone know where i can get info on instaling the diff since it was in there when i got it. |

Clutch installation is no big deal.. just time. The hardest part is pulling the tranny, especially if your on your back. A tranny jack is very helpful here. Having access to a lift would be the ideal way to do it. You can rent tranny jacks at most tool rental places. The diff install is another matter. While the install is not tough, you have to know how to adjust the ring and pinion back lash and diff alignment (usually requires shims etc). The gears must align perfectly and with constant pressure otherwise they will wear quickly and howl. This is best left up to someone with expertise in this area.

So would i need for a clutch alignment tool? I have a garage with concrete floors, engine joist, tranny jack, 3 floor jacks. My father owned a salvage yard ofr 17 yrs. I grew up around cars. Just wondering how to get lke the axels and such out of the tranny? is there any special tools getting it out
The diff will be installed by a mechanic with 15+ yrs of experience and is the head mechanic at a local chevy dealer. What tools would he need to help with that. My friend with no tranny knowledge at all installed a posi unit into his 95 eclipses tranny (420a motor and 5 speed) when he did the conversion on his car to a 5 spd. |
