zx3 vs svt contour???

I was just looking at a 98 svt contour with 65000 miles on it and I think I could get it for about 6500 bucks. Right now I'm driving a 2001 focus with about 67000 miles and I was just wondering how good of a deal that is, or even if an svt is worth giving up my focus for. Don't get me wrong I love my car, but i was just wondering if the svt contour would be a better car for maybe a few future bolt on mods and such or if it would be better to stay with my focus?

The Contour will be a collectors car before your Focus will be, but you'll need to keep it for 30 or so years. There's probably not much of an aftermarket for the Contour SVT because they didn't make to many of them, on the other hand, they were a pretty good car as delivered and you shouldn't have to do much to it. As with any limited production car, parts will be harder to get in the future and you tend to be stuck with Ford dealerhips (this is more applicable to engine internals and the tranny. The rest of the car is pretty much a standard Contour).

I would buy a contour if i had the money. It is a major upgrade to the focus but the car is already 5 - 7 years old. That requires maintence. A plus is that parts from the cougar fit on this car and the www.contour.org has lots of information for this, the aftermarket was not extremely large but many bolt-ons are available from sean hyland and www.spmotorsports.com.

The Contour SVT is a great car, i owned one for 2 years and they are the most fun to drive. The only setbacks are that yes, they are 5-7 years ols already, and there is not much of an aftermarket for them.

Vortech makes a blower for them. They claim 295hp I believe on a stock motor.

that's false...my brother has a 99 and its really reliable...except for replacing the O2 sensors which is a b**ch..
..but i wouldnt buy a 98 SVT...its slower than the 99 or 00...98's only came with 170hp while the 99 and 00 came with 200...so i'd say save your money and buy a 99 or 00 if you wanted one that bad or just keep your focus....there's also a wide performance selection for them...i've seen turbo'd and supercharged SVT's and also basic mods like intake exhaust cams udp's etc...it has the 2.5 duratec like in the cougar v6 and mazda 6 v6

My personal tastes would dictate that the Contour would be too large. Once again, please help me sell my Bonneville.

This statement is incorrect! The 98 and 98.5 E0 and first generation E1 had 195hp and the 99 and 00 second generation E1 had 200hp due to more extrude and honing (port and polish).

I had one for about 6 months and traded it for my zx3 if that tells you any thing.Dont get me wrong its a good car but it is limited on the after market thats why i got rid of mine i like to mod and their just wasnt any thing for it.The handeling was ok but the focus is much better in that department as far as speed stock to stock the svt would walk it but put some mild mods on the focus and your right their with it.Their are alot of things that should have been done different with the svt like the plastic water pump not one of fords best ideas and on hard right turns you can run your engine out of oil alot of the engines in the svt where lost for these reasons. If you just want a car to drive on the hwy that still has some sporty things to offer then the svt isnt a bad car but if your looking for a reliable car that you can truly tune stay with your focus.Besides I think the focus looke better done up anyway.
