The keyless entry fobs are the most expensive I've seen yet for spares/replacement.

How you going to get them/it programmed? It takes two transponder keys to program a new one. I myself only have 1 key. I am getting spare regular keys cut once I get car out of the shop. For some reason I love to lock myself out of my car!!! about 6 times in the last 3 years. Once with spare key in the car and car running with the other key in the ignition! D0h!

Yeah but at least with older model (before 2005) the FOBs are easier to program! I couldn't get my FOB from Oragell0 to reprogram to Patrick (both '05s) no matter what i tried. Now I hope I can get my Patrick and Orangell0 FOBs programed to DP!

Somewhere there is a youtube video on how to do it.

Time to go searching again!

'98-2007 FOB programming Can't wait to try this on DP!

I have two transponder keys. Plus if you do not care to have a transponder, walmart can make you a spare for $2.00. I like to zip tie my spare under the car. So if i get locked out i just break zip tie and done.

My cars have Names. First was a blazing copper ZX5 or Orangell0. Second was a black ZX3 or Patrick. New one is Dakota-PatE02.

I used hidakeys but the dont stick to well. i will be buying about 4 or 6 regular spare keys. May have to try the zip tie trick. I need one more transponder key so I can program a few extra keys. I don't really wanna pay ford for more keys......

I locked myself out yesterday and only got back in because I could reach the power lock button with a broomstick through my vented sunroof. I got a plain old metal key cut today for $1.25 and stuck it in my wallet. The dealership by me will program a blank transponder key for $30. I don't think that includes cutting it. They had no problem with bringing my own in, though. I read some old posts where somebody essentially attached a transponder to the lock cylinder in the steering column. I don't know anything about programming, but is there such a thing as being able to delete the need for the transponder key?

Wow I'll have to check on that with my local dealer, cause you should be able to get a key cut at almost any place. It's the programming that's a pain!

I don't know that I would want that. It makes your car more of a potential theft risk. Although it would be odd that they would even know you had done it. I'm not sure if you can actually bypass the PATS though.

Hey everyone. It's taken me about a month and a half, but finally, today I got a spare (third) key made, but it was an "adventure". I contacted a locksmith in Irvine, CA (AAA Locksmith if anyone here lives in Orange County), who had the machine. But, I got to his office, and he didn't have the software. So he ordered it, and when he had it a few days later, he came to my office, but it turns out that the sales person told him that he didn't need software for the machine itself, so he only bought the software for his computer. So, a couple of weeks later he got that second disc, but then found out that he needed a special cable. Finally today he came to my office and cut the key. However, he was unable to program the key using the programmer because this TOO needed to be updated (separate from the machine that cuts the key), so he used the instructions that came with the key that I got from Ebay. It cost me $54 for the key, and $75 (he gave me a discount for waiting so long) for the locksmith to cut and program it, so a little over $125. Not bad compared to how much the dealer would have charged me.

Interestingly (don't read if you are already bored.....this is just some info I found to be pertinent to this topic), the guy said that if he could go back, he would not have purchased the machine that cuts the key (it's not actually a laser, it's a very advanced milling machine, similar to the huge ones that I used when I was a machinist in the Air Force). He says it just isn't cost effective enough to cover the cost of the machine (about $10k), and then purchase new software every one or two years. He said that not enough customers come to him to make the keys, and the new car models continually change the chip sets inside the keys. But, I told him that I was glad that he did have the machine, as it saved me from having to pay two or three times more to go to a dealer. :-)

I thought some of you may find this information helpful or interesting. Good luck!

Funny, I called the Ford dealer in Conroe Tx and they said they would program my two keys for 85. Im still waiting to get my car back so I can take them up on that.

I hope older cars keys are easier to cut!!!

My daughter has a habit of locking her keys in the car (2000 ZX3 Kona) like her mother! I went to Walmart and had 3 cheap ford keys cut for a couple bucks. They only open the door, but better than calling a locksmith!
