Ford Ditches Microsoft for QNX

TOKYO/DETROIT/TORONTO (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co., struggling with in-car technology glitches, will base the next-generation Sync system on BlackBerry Ltd.'s QNX and no longer use Microsoft Corp.'s Windows, according to people briefed on the matter.

I am not sure if this is good or bad ..... Maybe they should go with Apple instead.

With Google maybe and Android ? That'd be very cool to have the Play Store in there... If only I could run Linux or even Windows Embedded in there ...

Opinion incoming..

I sincerely do hope this is a mistake or someone just spreading BS. After reading this yesterday on the tech blogs, I was left dumbfounded..

I don't think they could pick a worse partner than Blackberry. What have they done in the past few years that can be considered to be innovative? Their market share has been plummeting year over year and this is because they have refused to innovate and change with the market. What change they finally did recently has been more of a follow-the-leader reaction rather than forging their own path and even these attempts were abysmal failures.

Yes, they have a new CEO. But this guy has a TALL order in front of him of changes that need to be made. If it is even possible to right the company (Blackberry) at this point, why would Ford even consider this a logical move?

You guys do realize a TON of other automakers use QNX, right? They ain't exactly bolting a BB phone into the dash...

From what I've read it's leaps and bounds above Microsoft.

From a technophile's standpoint, qnx is crazy cool! I wish it wasn't so closed source so i could play with it.

How innovative has Microsoft of apple been? You gotta think before you talk because both companies are reactionary... Its called being conservative and in the technology world it will be your down fall.
Window 8 for example, and all the restructure ( paying more) of Microsoft products was because they were bull headed and didn't move with a more tablet market .. And apple there simple OS that has made them famous is also what is limiting the companies potential growth of their products.

I don't think moving away from windows is the issue.. there are many other manufactures that use windows (i.e. Hyundai) but its when you start running a flash based interface its all going to head down hill.

Please elaborate, because my portfolio says their products are doing a fine job of satisfying growth for their base customers.
