The range the dealer charges is $900-$1350 (depending on where you live) ........ I charge way, way cheaper than that but you have to drive to me.

Another thing to check, not sure if it was mentioned, is the clutch master cylinder for leaks. You'll notice this by brake fluid being on or around the clutch pedal.

Not a big deal though, it's easy to fix and should only take you an afternoon and maybe 40 bucks in parts.

Zetecs with cam phasers are interference. Svt and zx-2 are interference. 2.0 sohc and zetec dohc are freewheeling engines. Belt catalogs list all as interference. I have really cashed out buying cars with broken belts from people who trusted the advice of some kid making 8/hr selling parts.

I have been a tech since these cars came out. Though I no longer work @ a ford dealer foci still stream thru my shop weekly. Labor guide says 2.8 for timing belt. FoMoCo manual says inspect@ 90k and replace by 110k regardless. There is also a time specification for degradation of belts regardless of miles( I wanna say its 10 yrs but I'm not sure).

I am located north of cincinnati Ohio in mason if anyone ever has questions or wants a quote feel free to ask.

Problem areas on the focus platform are: oil leaks, tstat housing, plastic coolant manifold on core support(non svt), rear drums are problematic for inexperienced techs(non svt), shift cables, wheel bearings, ignition cylinders, sohc motors drop valves on #4 cylinder, early production models had fuel pump issues(non svt). Rust is a concern on any vehicle in that region. I probably missed a few things but that's the short list.

When I looked for one of these cars it took me a while because every one I found was beat to death. Nice ones are hard to find and I've had mine for 6+ yrs. I'd imagine that problem is worse now. When i say beat to death i dont mean overpriced for conidtion i mean not worth owning. Have a shop look at it, $50 is a good investment towards preventing a $4,000 mistake. Good luck. Let us know how it pans out. Low light photos always make me suspect.

Sometimes I miss my SVTF. It had 70K when I sold it but didn't have any issues. Can't say much about an SVTF with 150K. I guess that makes my post basically useless.

This thing was up on craigslist for forever. I would wait if you didn't buy it, there's a bunch popping up in new england right now in much better shape.

If you haven't bought this then:

I would consider 4K a highish price given miles and so room to make an offer.

If a stage 2 clutch was put it without the timing belt and say the engine mounts
then I would be weary as it's a half done but if you still want it then I would use such point to negotiate down as you will have the cost of doing the timing belt.

The ebacs ok but the stage 2 clutch can warn of hard driving and or racing intent.

Pics look good.
